Success after IF

I also have a screamer....all the time.

So I see a similar post about screaming but I think with DS its a little different. He is 21 mo and has taken to screaming bloody murder at the top of his lungs whenever and where-ever. It happens a lot when we are eating and he wants more. He knows how to ask for more and say please. But he just screams! I am trying not to react and just talk to him in a calm quiet voice after he screams. But I am unsure what else to do! Do I try to discipline somehow? Ignore it all together? Is it some kind of phase? As I typed this he screamed at least 4 different times!

Re: I also have a screamer....all the time.

  • My boys seem to go through screaming phases. S doesn't really scream at all yet, just raises her little voice a bit if she wants something. V screams just to see if he can get a reaction from me these days, but at almost 3 years old, he understands that it needs to STOP when I tell him to. B yells All.The.Time. He yells when he is happy, he yells when he is unhappy. He is seriously one of the loudest babies I have ever been around. We're working on signing to try to alleviate some of his frustration and I'm hopeful that maybe that will help.

I think you're doing the right thing now by staying calm and not reacting to his outbursts. We started time outs with V when he was 2 (not for screaming, just other 2 year old power struggle type stuff). He really didn't understand the concept before that, so it would have just been a recipe for more screaming.

    Stay strong and good luck!

I agree with all this. DS does it as well for no reason and the more I acknowledge it the more he does it.
