Labour Question (2nd or 3rd pregnancies)

I have to preface with a big apology if I posted this already. If I did I didn't re-check the post and I am sorry. Major preganncy brain over here! If you have two or three kids...how fast were your second and third labours?

My first was 30 hours and my second was an induction but only 12 hours. I am about an hour away from my hospital. (There ones closer but I have an amazing OB who I was set up with and then moved so I kept him) and I am just nervous. I think I have that preganancy fear that I will give birth on the side of the road. I will likely be induced again but just in case I go into labour early I would love to hear about your experiences!

Re: Labour Question (2nd or 3rd pregnancies)

  • DD1 was 4 hours start to finish, 3 days early.  DD2 was 6 hours start to finish, 2 days early.  Our hospital was 45+ minutes away and we had no real plan on what to do with DD1 when I was giving birth to DD2.  It all ended up working out.

I was induced both times. First was 12 hours from pita in to baby- pushed for an hour. Second was just under 2 hours from pitocin to baby- pushed twice and she was out

  • 1st - 46 hours, 2nd - 4 hours & 3rd - about 10 hours.
  • 22.5hr the first with pit, 12hr with 2nd, 6.5 with 3rd with pit
  • I had DD within an hour of reaching the hospital. She was completely natural due to the speed of the labor. DS (#2) was ten hours with pitocin. My water broke with zero contractions. I ended up with an emergency c-section because during transition it was discovered he was breech.

  • Both my laboratory were 9 hours, from the time I went to the hospital to delivery.

  • 1st- 14 hours, but things didn't get serious until about 7 hours in, 2nd- 7hours, but again, nothing to serious until there was only about 4 hours to go.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • DS1 - 24 hours from first contraction to delivery; about 10 hours serious labor including 3 hours of pushing
DD - 10 hours from first contraction to delivery; 2 hours from "this is really it" to delivery
DS2 - 52 hours from water breaking to delivery. Contractions didn't start until 48 hours after my water broke. I had very short, very far apart contractions for 4 hours. We didn't realize how far along I was because of that. Not too scare you, but (we plan HB), and after my longest, strongest contraction we told the MW to come. Then I told DH to fill the birth tub. About 30 seconds later, I said, "scratch that! Just catch the baby. Baby is about to crown!" Yeah, 2 contractions later I was holding DS2.

  • Both labors were 6 hours, give or take.
  • With my first it was 17.5 hours from start to finish.

With my second 5hr 10 min, but really only 2-2 1/2 hours of 'real' contractions.  Had I been asleep when labor started I would have been able to sleep through the first 3 hours or so.  My second was labeled a precipitous birth, I went so fast DS was born in triage.  I got there was on the monitors for several minutes, my MW went to check me and when I laid back DH could see the head!

Based on the information you have given us an hour doesn't seem unrealistic.  Have you asked your OB?
  • DD1 was 12hrs from feeling my bag of waters bulging to delivery.

DD2 was 9hrs of active labor. But I had early labor for three days with my water breaking the day before.

I was induced both times for medical reasons. First labor was 22 hours ending in emergency c-section due to prolapsed cord. I think it took me maybe 17 hours to get 10cm dilated. Second took 45 minutes and was vbac. Sorry! lol
  • I was induced with both pregnancies.

DD1 - started pit at 8am, 4cm dilated, born 16.5 hours later (45 mins of pushing)
DD2 - started pit at 8am, 5cm dilated, born 7.5 hours later (5 pushes total)
**With DD2, she was born within 45 minutes of my water breaking.  I went from a 6cm to 10cm very quickly.  I am glad my water didn't break at home, otherwise I would have been that lady on the side of the highway.  :-)
    DD #1 - 01.08
    DD #2 - 03.13
