Baby doll(s) for older child

I am 30 weeks along with mo/di girls and have a 2 year old boy.  I have heard people recommend getting a baby doll for the older child as a tool to help show how to help, hold, touch, etc the new baby.  My question here is if that worked well for any of the BTDT moms and if you got 2 baby dolls instead of 1.

Re: Baby doll(s) for older child

  • My mom bought our son who was 3 at the time, twin baby dolls. He hates them. They creep him out however we did show him how to hold them, touch them, etc and it didn't help much. He still loves his brothers a little too much sometimes and wants to touch faces or try to pick them up. But he's way more gentle with them than I expected. He has pulled the dolls out after they were born and fed them the bottle they came with but that isn't very often. He learned better on the ninja turtle dolls we got him when the baby dolls weren't helping.

  • My twins are my only kids, but DS got a cabbage patch doll around that age and he still sleeps with him at night.  I think all boys should have at least one doll.

  • DD was 16mos or so when we found put and she was given two sets of twin dolls and a toy double stroller. She loved playing with them and I think it did help with the concept a bit. She still plays with them a lot, especially feeding, burping, and comforting her babies.
