Attachment Parenting

Is anyone subscribed to Positive Parenting Solutions (Amy McCready)?

I attended the free webinar yesterday on "Is 'Time Out' a Waste of Time" and felt that there were some interesting tid-bits. I was curious as to the rest of the "tools" that are offered on the PPS website, but flabbergasted by the cost to join ($180 - $225 depending on package, with a discount for attending the webinar).

Is anyone on here a member? Have you found it is worth the price?

Thanks!

Re: Is anyone subscribed to Positive Parenting Solutions (Amy McCready)?

  • Yes, I have been a follower of Positive Parenting Solutions for several years now.  I know the cost may seem high, but truly it is the BEST investment I could have made as a mom.  Amy McCready has changed the way I parent for the better.  My kids are happier, more confident, more self-reliant...just better people since I've started following her program.  A friend (whose parenting skills I've always admired) first recommended this program, and now I've turned many others on to it as well.  As Amy says, we get training to do every other job - and parenting is the most important job we'll ever have.

Good luck if you decide to take the leap!

  • I did subscribe to it- my DS is a... spirited (and ADHD) young man, and we were basically to the point where we didn't care how much something cost if it helped! It does have some really, really good ideas, and does a really good job of putting things into perspective, breaking things into small, doable steps, and keeping you going. I've been able to use quite a few strategies for kids in my classroom even, and so, yes, it has been beneficial.

Some of it is common sense.. but when you're in the trenches, common sense doesn't always prevail, KWIM? I do feel that a lot of it can be gained elsewhere, through much cheaper means... she kind of takes a lot of the "best of the best" strategies from various psychologists and authors and consolidates it into one resource.

The thing I do like best about it though, is her basic philosophies that kids don't WANT to be "bad", and that you should never do for a kid what they can do for themselves- it very much fits my own personal philosophy in parenting and teaching.

It isn't a "must have", but it is useful and all in one place and convenient, and for me these days, that is worth the cost. :)

  • In spite of what seems to be a promotional post up there, I went to check it out after reading your (OP) post... and loved it. Just the fact that they use transactional analysis as part of their approach was enough to make me very interesting. Also, they are not time-out/praise enthusiasts and that is also a huge bonus for me (big Alfie Kohn - Unconditional Parenting fan here) and, as a pp said, they underscore the fact that kids are not "bad" because they want to. Also, the free intro stuff thety offer is really good.

I've enrolled myself already - you gain life-long access to the content so I figured I might as well see it now and revisit it if I ever need it again.

    So thanks, I guess!

  • Not worth it!!  They grab you but with some interesting ideas and tactics but after that it's all the same.  A lot of money for just a few ideas.  I would just watch the you tube videos.
