when did your LO stand unsupported?

And anyone else have a LO who still won't stand unsupported?

My LO still will not stand unsupported, though she walks with support like a pro.
My concern is that she won't even try-- it is like she is scared of falling.  And I'm pretty sure she's going to have to get used to falling in order to learn to walk.  What was the evolution of your LO learning to walk?  Did they go from cruising, to standing unsupported, to the "drunken sailor" toddle, to taking an occasional step?    or what were the phases they went through to get to walking?

Re: when did your LO stand unsupported?

  • B just figured it out last month.

He cruised around furniture for almost 2 months, he liked to hold a toy in one hand while doing it. Then one day he decided to let go of the couch and hold his toy with both hands. He fell as soon as he realized that he had let go. After that, I helped him practice standing and within a week, he was trying to take steps.

  • From a super early age, M always wants to "stand" with me holding her hands

8 months- crawled (pretty hesitant about it though)
8 months- stand alone for a few seconds

9 months- pull up on furniture

10 months- walking independently (skipped cruising)

    11 months- running

She has always had a gutsy personalize and was never really afraid of falling.  Although it was difficult at times for me, I tried really hard to let her figure things out on her own (like how to fall down).  Some babies, like I was, are pretty cautious.  I've read that how a child learns to walk is an indicator of how they will be as an adult (risk taker vs. cautious decision maker).

  • This just happened for us about 2 weeks ago, we have been trying to get her to stand alone for months and as soon as she realizes that she isn't holding onto anything/anyone she drops. Then one day she stood up and walked, I'm not kidding you it was like an overnight transformation. That would make her about 14.5 months and it was like 2 days of the stumbling and now she's everywhere.
  • A would walk very well with support, like your LO, but wouldn't stand on her own. Just last week from one day to the next she just let go of the furniture and started walking, like 5 or 6 steps. Now she walks everywhere! From PPs responses it seems like it's very unpredictable and not all babies go through all the phases.
  • H crawled, pulled to standing, and started cruising all around the same time - 9 months.

He stood without hanging onto stuff probably starting at 11 months?  By Halloween?  OMG, it was not that long ago and I already can't remember.

Took steps on his own (but not more than 6) at 12 months.

Finally started walking just after 13 months.  In general, he doesn't like to do things unless he thinks he can do them correctly.  I literally had to stand next to him and walk/march, and then BAM! he decided it was OK to walk on his own.

  • Z didn't stand alone till he was almost walking. he started walking right before he turned 13 months. He started standing on his own about that time too. His sisters would help him practice by standing him up with his hands and letting go. he'd then fall into them. He thought it was all kinds of fun and just started falling into them without standing. I'd sit in the floor and he'd crawl over and pull up to a stand on me and then just start falling on me. This seemed to help his fear of letting go of things and then he was ready to try it himself.

  • OK, you guys are making  me feel much better!  glad there is hope I won't have to be holding her hand forever....  And that this doesn't necessarily mean she'll be a scaredy cat forever.

For now I'll enjoy her limited mobility
