but, with my other two pregnancies, I was under 35 and didn't have any of the tests done that comes along with a pregnancy over 35. ?So, what kind of tests are done and at what stage of your pregnacy.....I see some going in for tests early on your pregnancy and my first appt is not til I'm close to 9 weeks. ?I'm wondering if I might be missing a crucial test if I wait til then?
My ob/gyn won't even see me until I'm 8 weeks, so I'm right there with ya. I think unless you do IVF or are high-risk (health issues, etc) they don't do tests that early. I'm just trying to relax and not freak out about every little cramp I feel. Today I went to the gym for the first time since my BFP and although I didn't overdo it, I still felt scared that something could happen.
I guess I'll be nervous until I see the doctor and I'm out of the 1st tri. GL to both of us!
Me: 44 DH: 42.
DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09.
TTC since then with no luck or ART.
Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
I'm certainly no expert (as this is my first pregnancy) but I'm not having any tests due to my age until my 12th week?the NT Scan. My OB gave me a home kit to do the bloodwork related to the test (to do 10 days prior).
Otherwise, I went for my first appt. last Monday at 6w4d and they took a LOT of blood. They're running the panels for genetic diseases (if I'm a carrier) and the Jewish panel (ie. Taysachs). But it was just an internal exam and pap.
My next appointment is 1/12 at 10w4d. My OB said at that visit she'd look for the heartbeat?I presume a doppler??and if she can't find it, she'd send me for an ultrasound. I go for the NT on 1/21 (11w6d).
the NTS needs to be done around the 12th week (my peri will not do it if you have completed 13w). It gives you a risk factor for downs and some of the trisomy disorders.
From then- you can decide if you want to do amnio or CVS. Both have m/c risks, so make sure you read up on them before anyone pressures you into getting one.
We did the NTS (it's just a finger prick and an US - totally safe)... but are not doing further testing.
DH and I still have to discuss it but I think if the NT scan and b/w are good I'm going to skip further testing. For me it's just not worth the risk of m/c. But I have to do more research on all of that, I might change my mind.

I just did my NT Scan at 12 weeks. This is the only test I'm doing unless I'm uncomfortable with my #'s then we'll do further testing. They said b/c I'm 35 I had to get the genetic counseling at the appt. also. They sat us down and went over possible chromosomal issues and tests (amnio, CVS). At my 8 week appt. my OB also went over the tests with me. Good luck!
I had a dating u/s at 7wks1d for both pregnancies, but that is just SOP for my doctor's office. This pregnancy I had the NT scan at 12 weeks and for both I had amnios at 15 weeks. With DS I had the GD test (not age related) at 27 weeks and this time I had it at 5 weeks because I had GD before.
Other than that, I can't think of anything you could miss. You could have the CVS, but at 9 weeks you will still have time to get that test done.
DH and I refused the NTS and all the genetic testing with DS and plan to do so again. I have a serious phobia about anything that is not medically necessary.
Your doctor will explain what is necessary and what isn't. GL! It can be very overwhelming
I had DD at 38. I got the quad screen at 16 weeks. I also had multiple ultrasounds. DD had dilated kidneys on our 20 week level 2 u/s, so they scanned her every 6-8 weeks. I think I had a total of 6 level 2 ultrasounds by the time I delivered. It was a reason to get to see her again IMO. I did the GD tests...failed the 1 hour like everyone else does and passed the 3 hour. They also watched my thyroid levels because I had a thyroidectomy in the past. I would have refused CVS or amniocentesis. I also would have declined the 3 hour GD test had I known I failed the 1 hour by one point. Totally unnecessary. GL
Hi, Hav2run. What is a Quad Screen? I haven't heard of that one before. what does it test for?
TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages.
Finally, Sticky Success!! B/G Twins arrived 2011.
