GTT PSA

Found out today that failing your GTT one hour by a whole lot does not necessarily mean you have GD. My one hour reading was 183. Took the three hour today and the nurse just wrote and said I have "no signs of diabetes". Pretty much had convinced myself I'd fail because my one hour was so high, so I'm really relieved! Two hours before the one hour I ate eggs and a piece of whole grain toast. Yesterday before fasting I ate a quarter pounder meal from McDonald's. so I'm starting to think what you eat before doesn't make a difference, but who knows!

Re: GTT PSA

  • I failed my one hour by one point-my blood sugar was 130 and their top number was 129. I'm hoping things look better on Friday for my three hour test. Glad to hear your test results came back the way you wanted. :)

  • Many who fail the 1 hour will pass the 3 hour. They try to catch the top percentage of "normals" because of being borderline and retest to get a better look at things. Or something like that, the dr explained it all to me last time around. Clearly I paid a lot of attention. ;) Glad you passed the 3 hour.

I know the majority who fail the 1 hour will pass the three, but i failed the 1 hour by 40pts, and had a really hard time finding anyone else who had failed by that much who went on to pass the 3 hour. That's why I wanted to share this. i'd pretty much convinced myself i would fail because it seemed so unlikely i would pass.

  • FWIW, failing the 1 hour by just a little doesn't mean you DON'T have it either.

I failed the 1 hour by 10 points. Didn't pass the 3 hour.

  • I failed my one hour with a 170.

Just got home from my two-hour - hoping, hoping, hoping I pass it. But thanks for the reassuring post!
  • I'm sitting here waiting for all the fun to begin with my 3 hour test.  Drank the "yummy" Sunkist knockoff.
I had GD with my first pregnancy and then went on to be totally normal in my two subsequent pregnancies.  I feel like you never really know.  I have been testing my sugars and following the GD diet since failing my one hour last week- and they have not been the best...so needless to say I am less than hopeful.

Congrats on passing yours!! Now go get a big bowl of ice cream and fries!
  • This is my third pregnancy. I've never passed a one hour test. I did my one hour with this pregnancy at 16 weeks, and had to do the 3 hour. They wanted to retest at 28 weeks and just decided based on my history to let me skip the 1 hour and go right to the 3 hour. I've never failed a 3 hour. :)

I have failed the one hour both times.  Taking the 3 hour this week.  I don't think what you eat before has anything to do with it.
