I quickly searched the previous posts and didn't see anything similar, but if I missed it, let me know : ) My MIL and I were having a discussion the other day about our favorite books from childhood. Do you guys have any books that your parents/grandparents/babysitter read you EVERY day that you now want to buy for your LO? If you already have kids, any books you can recite from memory because you've read them so many times?
Mine are Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkin that my dad read to me every night (complete with silly voices and actions) and Morris the Moose Goes to School by Bernard Wiseman that my brother read to me all the time.
Re: Favorite kids books
Also something I'll share with you all is a special idea I have for my LO. I have great memories of making my own books on tape with my dad when we were little. So I plan now to ask any family or friend who is interested to record their own version of a book on tape on a digital file (sign up on a google doc) so eventually I have a massive collection of audio books from loved ones for my baby girl

I think that it is lovely to register for books and to have a shower with a reading/story theme.
I think that you would give a book instead of a card is lovely, and the practice may naturally catch on within your circle if they also think that it is a great idea.
Anything to suggest a gift beyond providing registry information in a shower invitation is tacky.
ETA: there may exist an exception to that last one, but I can't think of one atm.
I'm headed to a shower Saturday...invite included the cutest book plate to include in a book for the mom-to-be. I don't think it an original idea but it was executed well. I'm excited to share my dad's fave book--pete the cat
