3rd Trimester

Walking

I'm 32 wks. My doctor wants me to do light exercising. Walking is my only option due to schedule/budget, but by the end of the work day, I feel so swollen and my stomach feels tight. Does walking relieve these symptoms? Won't it just make them worse? Also, I have to walk in the evenings, mornings aren't an option.

Re: Walking

  • Mornings would be the ideal time because most people fell the best at that point. If that is not an option, do you have the chance to take short walks at various times throughout the day?

  • My stomach feels really tight in the afternoons, too, I'm assuming it's BH, but they sure feel different than I remember.  Like pp said, can you do a little bit of walking/exercise (lunges, arm exercises using soup cans for weights, stretching, etc) throughout the day? Also, I've found the days I drink more water I have less of the tight feeling.  I hope you find something that works for you.

  • Walking probably won't make those things feel better (at least at first--you might notice more energy in the afternoons after you have been doing it for awhile) but something is better than nothing! I would just start slow--no need to power walk or go for miles. Maybe start with 15 to 20 minutes at a relaxing pace and add some time to that every few days or so.
