The state of your bras

How are you managing so far with bras this pregnancy? Last time I was able to get by with cheap band extenders on my normal bras until DD was born, then had to buy several nursing bras. This time I'm grumpy that the boob fairy hasn't even bothered to visit me yet, but I know it will come at some point. How about you? What do you do to keep the ladies supported? How many do you buy? Any particular recs?

Re: The state of your bras

  • I ended up digging out some of my 2 "fatter" bras that I had kept from when I was a few pounds heavier, but it turned out that 1 had a broken underwire & the other isn't so great anymore.  I definitely need to go shopping, but have been putting it off because I really don't want to have to buy several different sizes if at all possible.  H is all for 'the girls' being comfortable so he's supportive of the shopping, but I really really really really hate bra shopping.

  • H keeps noticing as well that my boobs are about to pop out or if I'm in the shower he something to say about them. I have broke down and bought cloth type bras from target for the time being. They have no wire or anything. Target bras with wires are funny, I think some of the brands are sized way wrong. I'm a 34B pre-pregnancy and I went and bought a 36C and it was way too tight and small, I felt like I was suffocating.

  • I definitely need to get some bigger bras - I don't think extenders will do it, I really need larger cup sizes.  I'm just putting it off because I don't want to buy more.  I usually wear a tank top with some bra support on the inside, so that helps keep things in check when my actual bras underneath are too small.

Hubby thinks my bras fit great now *eyeroll* - men!

  • I just need new bras. I hate spending the money on them so I wear them until they're almost falling apart.

  • Yep, I have just started popping out so I am wearing my maternity/nursing bras from when I was pregnant with DD.
I like Medela. Target has some okay ones also.

  • I hate buying new bras!! I have been using a couple of my old nursing bras, but I am borderline popping out of those :( I don't think I will make with current ones. Ill probably in the next few weeks buy 2 more in the next size and hope they last!
  • I need to buy a larger size, I just don't want to.  The band is too tight, I have terrible marks when I take my bra off.  I was going to buy those extenders, but I keep forgetting.  I'm too large for my cup, but I think I'm only in the next cup size for now.  I think I'm holding off until they get bigger.  When I wear certain shirts, it's very obvious that my bras are too small.

My SIL told me to buy nursing bras a few sizes bigger.  It doesn't sound comfortable to me to wear a bra that is too big either.
  • I bought a few last week at Motherhood, but now I don't like them and am going to take them back. I only wore one, and never took the tags off the others. I was a 34D pre-pregnancy and was resized at 34DD. I can still wear my 34Ds, so I might just take the others back and just wait a few more weeks until I can't stand it anymore.

  • I wear my nursing bras from my 1st pregnancy around the house and to sleep because I feel like anything that touches my nipples feels like it's going to rip them off. I didn't use them much either the 1st time around so they are practically brand new. If I leave the house I wear my regular bras but when I get home I quickly take it off. My boobs only get big once LO came. I don't think I could do 42DD boobs plus whatever the boob fairy will bless me with. Esp. long before baby gets here.

  • My band size actually stayed the same, 36, but my cup size went up 2 sizes, D to DDD.  I did buy a 38DD as well, since they were having a sale and I figure I'll need it eventually.  Bras that fit are my favorite thing in the world.  I hate having the bras just sit on top of boobs doing nothing at all except keep my nipples from sight. I got these two new bras a month or so ago and the boobs have stayed pretty steady.

I advice for bigger boobed girls is to go to Soma, a department store with an actual bra department, or a local specialty store.  It's worth the money.  I'm so jealous of women who can buy bras at Target.

  • I'm still in the same bras, but there are a few that I won't wear as I'll budge out. I've still got 4 that are good. I'm sure in a few months I'll need to upgrade to DD!

  • Try microfiber material. They grow with you (to a degree). Bravado makes a great one, and motherhood maternity also sells some good ones.

  • Perhaps this is a FFWC, but I am pretty much strictly in sports bras. Normal bras are way too uncomfortable (I am a big-boobed lady), so I only wear them on special occasions. Uniboob is the new black.

This is me! I was just telling my hubby how I'm bummed my boobs haven't really changed...but I'm sure they'll be changing soon enough. As for my bras...I'm still the same size... nothing has changed.

  • I've gone from a 32c to a 32d and I really want to get the bravado silk nursing bra since I've heard such good things. By their sizing chart I would be a small, but if my band size increases at all I'd be a medium, so I don't know what to do. They're pricey, so I guess I'll hold off for now.

  • @potterowl, these were my favorite last time -- Gap Body support camis. https://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=7275&vid=1&pid=761563002
  • I'm normally a D cup.  Now, according to the fitting assistant at Victorias Secret I'm a DDD/F cup.  I couldn't bring myself to pay $50 for a bra that probably won't fit for very long though, so I'm still squeezing into (and spilling out of) my original D cup bras.  The girls aren't very comfortable AT ALL, but I'm too freaking cheap to buy several bras in multiple sizes so I'm just waiting for now... although I'm not sure what exactly I'm waiting for.  Perhaps its just denial   :P

Our twins are twins.... I'm in the same boobie boat and can't bring myself to pony up so much cash for something I'll probably grow out of soon. I spent two hours at the mall one day trying on bra after bra with no success. I ordered done stretchy looking nursing bras off zulily so I'm hoping they will be ok (haven't arrived yet)

  • I think I might be in the minority with my little ladies on this board. I started out as a 34A and quickly jumped to a 34B. I bought 2 wireless bras from VS to get me through. All of my old bras were padded since I needed all the help I could get and not they are just painful to wear. I could go up to a 34C now, but am waiting to see if they keep going or stay in the B range.

I really like the wireless bras from VS. They provide good support while maintaining a nice shape as well.

  • My bras are digging in the back, every one is killing me! I'm not going to last much longer without buying bigger.
  • I am currently using my bras from my 1st preganacy.  A few are snug but others are still fitting well.  Don't think I'll be able to extend as its my cup not my band that is about to bust.

Tell me about it, where are my pregnancy boobs!  I had cleavage with my first (I'm usually an A cup).  This time...nothing.  I'm still lazily wearing sports bras.  I bust out the under-wire for special occasions only ...pun intended.

MC October 2011.  DD born October 2012.  Expecting #2 August 2014.

  • I am normally a 32DD and measure now at a 32DDD. However, I bought a 34DD because it is the sister size and just feels better. I am not buying any nursing bras yet; you really shouldn't wear a bra for more than 6-9 months because they stretch and are no longer supportive. So I bought a couple Sexy Tee Perfect Coverage bras from Victoria's Secret. They are pretty inexpensive, (2/$49) but more durable than the cotton bras that are the same price, and I like the fit.
