My husband and I have been trying for eight months and had 2 miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. I have my first appointment with a fertility specialist what should I expect?
My DH had two SA which showed low everything.. so we made an appt with a fertility clinic where everything happened really fast in a robotic assembly line fashion. I got my blood test during my period, then another very detailed blood test to test for everything under the sun, then i got a test that checked to see if my tubes were clear, then i got any ultrasound to look for any obvious problems, then i got another blood test to see if I was about to ovulate, then they checked my cervical mucus to look for sperm from sex the night before (saw none)_, then another ultrasound to check my follicles. Then I got an IUI (not all these tests on the same day obviously lol) Fertility testing is intense and very time consuming.. you have to have a flexible work schedule as all the timings for these test are specific. BTW all my tests were A Okay! I feel like at my clinic the staff didnt communicate with each other.. some had no idea why I was there .. some didnt know which tests I had and hadnt had that day.. And then you always gotta make sure you know what your insurance covers and doesnt cover! Good luck. Ask questions and dont jump to any steps you arent comfortable with.
Husband: MFI Counts 1-11mil, Mot 32%-50% Morph 2-4%

For your first appointment, the doctor will probably just go through your medical history and talk to you about the basics of fertility testing. Maybe they will discuss treatment options, but they may save that until after you get your test results.
They will talk to you about having blood work and an ultrasound done on day 3 of your cycle. You'll also probably need to have an HSG or SHG which are procedures that examine your uterus and tubes. In your case, the doctor may talk to you about other testing regarding your losses but I'm not sure because I don't have experience with that.
Thanks for posting this. I came to this board looking to ask the same question. We've had two missed miscarriages, right ovary removed in October (hey!! the tube is there!!) and now husband has low T. (his doc wrote him a script for T and said there are no problems with fertility and rx T).
Did I mention I'm 37 in a month?
Can I actually expect them to treat us as individuals or should I expect the factory approach?
Good luck! My 1st appointment went just like the PPs said. As you think of questions leading up to your appointment, write them down! We had a whole bunch of questions we wanted to ask and when we left we were kicking ourselves in the rear for forgetting!
