Rec your baby gates

We need help with equipping our stairs with baby gates. The 2 gates we got from our registry don't work. These are the 2 we have.
1st was planned for the top of the stairs since the step over bar is thinner.
2nd we thought we could use at the bottom of the stairs.
We have hardwood floors throughout our house and both of these gates stuck up way too much. The step over bars made it very dangerous to walk. I tried walking up and down the stairs and was tripping. I can hardly imagine how my mom would navigate when she watches LO.
We were trying to avoid drilling into the walls, but now I don't care. I was thinking that this gate may work since there isn't a bar to walk over. Any other suggestions? Thanks ladies!
