Re: Breast feeding poll

  • I planned on 6 months but will be done by the time he's 9 months.

  • I'll continue to pump until I dry out. That was around 18 months with ds1.

  • I am still unsure. Planning to keep at it until she is 12 months old. I will stop pumping at that point, but I will let her be done when she is ready, I think. In many ways, I'm ready to be done and have my body back.

  • Right now I think we cut down to 2x a day at 12 months (when I go back to work) then wean by 18 months-ish. Depends on how DD and I feel.

  • I'm hoping on somewhere in between 14 to 18 months. Supply is fine it's the biting that really hurts. And she doesn't even have one tooth yet  :(

  • My goal was 6 months. But then before I knew it he was 8 months, and it seems like a pain to switch to formula, then cow's milk. So my goal is 12 months, then wean. I will miss that time together, but I am ready to have my body back!
  • My goal was to take it one week at a time and not to decide in advance how long I wanted to nurse for. I am happy to say I EBF for 3.5 months, and then after going back to work, continued to nurse until she was about 7.5 months.

I decided to quit because my supply wasn't great anymore and I couldn't keep up with pumping and my job.
  • I am planning to stop pumping at work at 12mo but will nurse morning and evening if she still wants it and my supply keeps up.

I hate change and as KJ grows up, it's constant. As much as I hate pumping I already know I am sort of going to miss it.

  • All depends on LO. Ideally I would like to go until 2. That will also morē than likely mean ill be tandem breastfeeding as well, because I hope to be pregnant again soon.

  • Well my goal was 6 months, and then LO was 8 months before I knew it. I've been trying to introduce formula to start weaning but LO is having no part of it so I'm not sure how long this will go on. I wanted to just be nursing morning and night by 9 months.

  • I'm hoping for 12 months but I have no idea if it will happen. Between my constantly distracted baby and low supply, I wouldn't be surprised if we stop earlier.

  • I plan on weaning around 12 months. In the past 4 years I have been pregnant twice and breast fed 2 babies for a year each. I'm so ready for a break!
  • Somewhere between 12 months and two years. I don't really have an exact deadline. I'm just going to roll with it and see when she seems ready.  She loves all the food, so I doubt we will go past 18 months. I want my body to myself for some period of time before baby #2.

  • Not sure... Most likely until he self-weans... We'll see.

  • I was hoping for a year but made it to 6 months before weaning due to health problems with LO.

  • I put 2 years.... because I'm currently wanting her to self-wean. We've adjusted our goal a few times- originally it was 3 months, then 6 months, and because it's gone well for us, we're up to let her self-wean.

Our lil' diva: late like her Momma: 40 weeks 5 days!
  • I originally planned for 3 months, but with the support of my husband and a huge amount of determination on my part (I'm exclusively pumping and not able to take some medication I'd normally be on), I'm now shooting for 12 months.
  • My plan is a year. If I go any longer, I will pump.
I nursed DS2 for 18 months, and it was really tough for me. I no longer enjoyednursing him. It became a chore for me. He refused any solid food, so I had to provide something for him.

I'm starting to build up my freezer stash, so I may start weaning at 11 months, and use my stored milk.

Or maybe I'll nurse for 12, and use the stored milk for him after I've weaned him.

  • My goal was 6 months. My supply started dropping slowly since he was 4 months and I have been supplementing since then. Now I am down to only feeding in to the morning. Not sure how long that will last. I wish I could have gone longer, but am glad I made it past 6 months.

  • I was planning on going for 12 months, but now that I am knocked up, my OB is suggesting that I call it at 9 months.  And really... I am totally fine with that.

  • I voted SS.  The more I think about it the more I want to definitely go until 2, and then see when LO wants to self-wean.  I do have some concern about my cycle coming back though, because we do want two relatively close in age.  I'll cross that bridge when we come to it.  I'd love to have LO potty trained before another, because I don't really want to have to deal with two in diapers - and that way I wouldn't have to buy any more!

I think I'm going to continue to pump until LO transitions out of the infant room.  I've got it down to twice a day pumping and I can deal with that/welcome the break sometimes.  That might be somewhere around 18 months or so.  It also depends on how the ladies at daycare feel about breast milk and transitioning to open cups - my daycare doesn't do sippies/straws generally.

  • I don't really have a time frame, but I plan on being done for sure by 2 years. DS1 was done at 13 months with no big deal but he probably could have gone longer too if I wanted to. There was one particularly sad moment when he was really sick around 15 months and kinda opened his mouth and threw himself at my chest hoping to get some comfort :( That was pathetic. Lo seems even more boobie obsessed than G was and since DH says no more kids I will probably let him go a lot longer than I would have thought the first time around. I'm honestly "milking" the whole experience for more this time, for lack of a better term!

  • I've recently had to start supplementing with formula for his bed time feed. I hope to be able to breastfeed and pump until 12 months, and then do morning and night time nursing sessions as and when he needs/wants them. I too wish I could ditch the pump.

  • My goal was a year, but I stopped a couple of weeks ago (at 7.5 months) due to travel plans that would make it extraordinary difficult to continue.

  • I voted 12 months, but we'll go longer depending on DD. I'll just follow her lead and see where it takes us. In all honesty, she really is only interested in nursing at night these days so i don't anticipate her wanting to continue for too long after 1. She loves solids, and drinking out of her sippy. Nursing is far too restrictive for her during the day when she'd rather be chasing the dog or playing with her toys.
