CJ Butter and all its rave

so i heard CJ butter is the best there is for pretty much anything, but especially with CD and rashes. Just wondering what your thoughts are on it and best place to purchase. my LO is teeny tiny so all my CD don't fit her, but she will here soon! so since I'm using desitin on her butt now, i want to find something i can use with her CD. TIA!!!

Re: CJ Butter and all its rave

  • I like CJ's. It's more of a glorified lotion than anything. I use it like a lotion for eczema sometimes. It isn't a barrier cream though. I like to mix it up and use CJ's for preventative or dry patches and Grandma El's for an all natural CD safe barrier cream.

  • So with cloth you don't need to use diaper cream with every change. It's just not necessary.
We use CJs any time LO gets a little red. She's usually cleared up by morning. We like the tub, it lasts forever and smells SO much better than that nasty desitin.
We also use just plain coconut oil if she is red, and we have a grovia magic stick at DC.
As far as where to buy, it just depends who has free shipping or any specials at the time.

  • Cjs plus is great. It helps keep yeast at bay.

ditto - I got both on amazon
  • Thanks everyone! So I would say yay for Cj butter ;) didn't know I can get it on amazon so double wam on that. Also didn't know coconut oil worked for diaper rashes. Are we talking about plain coconut oil that is used for cooking? The kind that looks like crisco?
  • Yep. It's great, it's antibacterial and antifungal so it's a great rash treatment. And it's cd friendly.

  • We use the lavender and tee tree oil spray. It is great at keeping rashes at bay as LO gets them easily. DH likes it because he hates diaper cream on his hands. I will still use desitin or weleda over a liner at night for big rashes. I am not sure if the weleda is CD safe or not, I know tat desitin is not.

  • For coconut oil you want the kind used for cooking, but make sure it's virgin, cold pressed. I'm not sure why other than you don't want all the processing.

The unrefined/not virgin doesn't smell like yummy coconuts. That's another downside.

  • I have friends that use weleda with cloth no problem. It is super great diaper cream but we stick to disposables or liners with it.

Other than that I just yeah that what everyone else already said. We have cjs in a stick.

  • Awesome ladies thanks so much! Yes I have the virgin organic kind. I'm a little worries though. Are you sure I can out this on my babies poop hole and bum? By poop hole I don't mean the inside lol just the outside because it's red there as well. ( just clarifying lol) the white stuff melts as soon as I touch it
  • And yes we're sure.

Yep, it helps for that if you use it with every diaper change.

We have the CJ's stick from amazon and love it.  We also have a Grovia magic stick, and while that one's ok, I don't like it as well--seems like it doesn't work as well, and it certainly doesn't smell as nice.

  • So I ordered CJ's butter monkey farts…I am so sad :( my baby's bum was just red all night with no improvement. Same thing happened with the coconut oil. It seems anything with the same texture as both of these makes it worse. I used wedela on her bum and it cleared it right up. there goes my $15…sigh. thanks so much though ladies! :)
  • If you really need a good CD safe barrier I would give Grandma El's a try. Once the rash is gone CJ's is great for keeping the skin healthy.
  • I also use cjs as lotion after a bath.

  • OP, if you want help with the rash, can you be more descriptive? Where exactly is it? Front? Back? In the folds or no? Is it raised or flat, etc? Do you think it might just be wetness sensitivity? Are you smelling ammonia? Have you seen a pedi to rule out infection?

CJ's is a great product but no one here is claiming that it will cure any and all rashes.
  • Bumping this up again, would something like waxalene or grandma els work as a barrier cream well enough for ON? I am making some more fleece liners, but need a better barrier cream than Cj's. Is there anything as effective that might be on the more inexpensive side? (A 2oz jar of grandma els is the same as an 8oz of CJs)

i understand no one claimed anything about it. I just heard a lot of good things about it as well as coconut oil. Just letting you all know it didn't work for me. Its only in her bottom between her cheeks. i change her every time before i feed her so about every two hours to three. Its nothing severe, but I don't like her having one. Makes it seem as if i'm not taking good care of her is all.
  • @mrshudson618 Grandma El's helped heal DS's wetness sensitivity rash when he was younger. You only need a thin thin thin layer, so a little bit goes a long way. We had a very stubborn rash, so I used Grandma El's on DS overnight. The rash was always noticeably calmer in the morning. I used CJ's at the changing table and Grovia Magic Stick in the diaper bag during the day. My memory is a bit fuzzy but it probably took around 6 weeks for the rash to heal from the time we started using Grandma El's. Honestly, nothing else worked. He was too sensitive to zinc creams so there was no point going the non-CD route.

Once the rash was fully healed and I felt his skin was strong enough, we switched to CJ's overnight. I have only reached for Grandma El's one time since then.

I haven't used Waxelene in this way -- I've been using it on DS's eczema patches. It's rare anymore that he gets redness that lasts more than half a day.
  • thanks! maybe it is wetness IDK she's fine somedays and then she gets it all over again. Usually clears up within a day or two. I did notice that this last time it felt like her rash was a little , no sores or anything like that. It just had a texture like it was irritated…idk if I'm describing it well. sorry. i guess ill wait and see until this one completely clears up and then ill use CJ's to see if it stays nice and gone. I just hate seeing it come and go. It gets pretty frustrating.

  • OP, are you BF? If so it could also be something in your diet irritating the skin. For example I found that acidic foods really caused DS's rash to flare up.

That's what I was going to say. Often I it's only between the cheeks or around the butt hole, it has to do with the diet.
