Car Shopping

We have decided to buy a new car. Man, OVERWHELMING!

So Im wondering, what do you drive and what do you love/hate about it?

If you could buy something else today what would it be?

Re: Car Shopping

  • I love my Toyota Highlander! It gets awesome gas mileage and has an awesome amount of room in the backseat. Even the 3rd row can fit 2 adults comfortably, although we rarely use the 3rd row (I always have it folded down for more cargo space). I can't think of anything I don't like about it!

  • We currently have a GMC Acadia. I love it! It's great having all the cargo space and passenger room. It actually gets pretty good gas mileage and is very comfortable to drive. The two things I would change are the color (it's black, not a huge fan) and that it's not AWD. We couldn't find a used AWD model down here. That won't really be an issue for us until we move back to the northeast though.

  • We have a Nissan Murano. It is a small/crossover SUV. I like it because It is not humongous and it gets decent gas mileage. There is plenty of room in the back and I do not ever feel cramped.

I do not really have anything negative to say about it. It has worked great for us.

  • My grandparents have a dodge journey and I don't know about them but I like the look of those a lot!
  • I have a Kia Sportage. Its older, but it drives great! I've never gotten stuck in the snow despite the snow piles I've encountered. It has a great amount of space and it has worked perfectly!

  • I have a 2013 Subaru Forester and we LOVE it!! Handles great and is the perfect size for our little family. Not to mention it is super safe!
  • I had a VW Passat wagon that I loved, but it really didn't work for 2 kids. We just bought a Town and Country and as much as I hate driving a minivan, it's way more practical w two kids. Double stroller fits great in the back and there's still room for groceries with stow and go seats. And I'm now ready for preschool carpool next fall.
IVF, acupuncture, meditation and a miracle.

  • I drive the BMW X5 (SUV). I like that it's heavy, safe, easy to handle, and spacious front and back seat area. Dislikes are the trunk is smaller than a lot of SUVs, it takes premium gas, and it's pricey when in the shop.

I love love loved my Toyota 4runner I used to have. I was hit by a drunk driver and it got totaled. =( Next car I'm going to look at all things Toyota, the Chevy Traverse, and I've heard good things about the Volvo crossover.

  • We just bought a suburban! Probably bigger than you'll need, but we needed the space. We also have a ford escape and a Kia sportage.

  • I have an Infiniti G35 on its last leg... I love it so much, so I will probably get a newer G37 or maybe an M37 next. I Used to have an Acura MDX, but with my back being a crapshoot, I do better with the lower car. Negatives would be the maintenance cost - but only because I have over 100k miles and things start going bad on them. Just replaced the alternator and drive belts and the following week had a cracked oil pan. I love the handling and safety of the car though. I'm an Infiniti customer for life (as long as I can afford it! )

  • We just traded in our Honda pilot which was nice for a Chevy suburban. We did this only because we are a family of 7 now and are very tall and we want to do some road trips. We need room for the humans and all the crap. The gas mileage blows though.

Could have wrote this myself, we are on our second one and will def. always have one.  We also have a Honda Civic from 2005 that I still use that runs and looks great.

  • I have a 2005 Honda CRV and I love the reliability, gas mileage and decent amount of space for all things baby oriented. I only wish I had a MP3 player since I only have a tape player and 5 disc CD player. We are thinking of purchasing a bigger vehicle, something a little bigger than my car and that can tow. I love the Toyota highlander but hate the looks of the 2014 style so maybe 2011 or 2012.
  • 4Runner! Colorado resident here and she handles beautifully in any weather that gets thrown our way!
  • Acura MDX here. Surprisingly small backseat. Learned this when we installed the car seat. Can't put it in the center, so the front passenger ends up sitting on the dash. We are all city driving so it is terrible on gas mileage. We are liooking at a Lincoln MHz hybrid. Surprisingly with that we only loose cargo space. Interior front and back are comparable to the MDX. We are hesitant to downsize so we haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • Just got a new car, I'm driving a 2014 Toyota Rav4. I love the car, that was an upgrade from my husbands scion XD. That thing had absolutely no room! My husband drives the car I bought right after college, a Toyota Corolla.

  • I'm driving a 2008 Saturn Aura XE.

Pros: Safe, reliable, very spacious for e mid sized sedan, huge trunk, quiet when driving, fast (6 Cylinder), nice interior design

Cons: I'm short, and noticed that I don't do good with low cars, sucks gas (especially with a right "lead foot"), bad blind spot in front where the windshield meets the side panels (!)

The car that I have my eyes on is a Kia Sorrento.

  • I have a VW Jetta I purchased last year. I really like this car because its great on gas and it has plenty of room for 2 car seats and if my husband rides in my car, he has plenty of room too (he's tall).

  • I have a new Ford Explorer - fits a BOB and a dog in the back if 3rd row seating is down. Plus it is super safe!
  • I have a 2013 dodge Durango and LOVE IT! Lots of space, third row seats, can install car seat in the middle back. Also, the AWD is great in the snow!

  • I drive a 2008 Ford Edge.  I absolutely love it.  It has tons of room without feeling huge.  We just took a trip and comfortably fit both DH and I (he's 6'8") and the baby and a large golden retriever and half our house!  I'd love to get another one.  It doesn't get great gas milage but I don't drive much anyway so it's not a huge deal for me.

DH drives a 2011 Infiniti G37x.  I totally love that car but we don't use it for transporting the baby.  DH drives it to work and if I'm good, he lets me run errands in it :)

We have a 2011 Honda Odyssey.  I was against a mini van until I got rear ended with DD in the car by a Ford Expedition going 40 mph in my 2010 Honda Civic.  Even though the Civic did just fine and wasn't even a total loss and DD's carseat was amazing (Graco Myride rear facing at the time) I was so paranoid everytime I was stopped at a light after that. So when we found out we were expecting this LO we purchased the Odyssey.  It was used and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but I LOVE the space and it drives just like a car.  The captain seats are great for both carseats and the third row can be put down for storage room or to change a baby or to feed a screaming baby in a parking lot ;)  I never thought I would love a mini van so much but I do.

I do not really have anything negative to say about it. It has worked great for us.
Also have the Nissan Murano. I love the size, it's perfect for us plus our 80lb dog in the back. We choose the Murano partly because DH drives a Maxima that has the same engine/transmission and it's been the most reliable car in the world. Also, the Murano has a lot of extras including the back up camera (life saver at work since we have to back into parking spots), heated seats and 2 sunroofs. We searched around for similar sized SUV's and this was the clear winner in our opinion. We bought used and got a great price.

Which model do you have? We have the SL. I was told that the "newer" ones are made bigger now. Ours does not have a sunroof though.

  • I have a 2012 Prius C.  My car is SUPER small.  It works for us because we don't drive very long distances and you can't beat the gas mileage, but it definitely would not be my first choice if we spent more time in the car.  DH has a 2008 Subaru Impreza hatchback.  We really like his car.  It's a little bit bigger, but still pretty small and has the AWD.  Neither are really great family cars so we'll probably end up upgrading in the next couple of years.

I believe we have the SL also, it's a 2010.

We bought the Lexus RX right before I delivered. It's a dream to drive. OP, I don't know where you live, but I'm in the Northeast and this car is a beast in the snow. Plus it comes essentially fully loaded. The only extras we had to add on were things like a back-up camera and navigation.
Love my RX. I'm on my second. It's so safe and reliable. I drove my first RX for over 100k miles and never needed to replace/repair anything except tires, brakes and change the oil. Plenty of room in the trunk for suitcases, stroller and the kids' stuff.

We are thinking about getting a bigger SUV in a couple of years with a third row because with the two kids seats in the back we can't fit anyone else, but I'm going to miss my RX.
