Which is more absorbent prefolds or flats?

I've been stuffing good night heavy wetters with a small imagine prefold (green edge) and it has been working well for a few weeks.  Now, he is soaking through that so I'm looking to add more absorbancy.  I have medium imagine prefolds (yellow edge) and diaper rite small (27x27) birds eye cotton flats.  Which would hold more stuffed into the pockets?  I plan to move to fitteds at some point but the one size fitteds still seem so big on him.

    When I tested them by soaking in water and letting drip dry, a small GMD prefold held much more than a pad folded flat. I'd say give them both a try during the day and see how they do.

    Have you tried adding a hemp insert? I do a GNHW stuffed with a prefold and a Thirsties hemp insert. This has been working for my 1 year old for the past month.

    I don't think Birdseye cotton is very absorbent, so I would go with the prefold.

    I've been working on my over night routine. I tried 1 flat and 1 hemp doubler. Soaked through it. Tried 1 prefold and 1 hemp doubler. Super wet, but no wet pjs in the morning or through out the night. (she wakes up enough to feed). Flats are trimmer though so if they work for you, that would be the way to go.

    IME two FST flats hold more than one small GMD prefold, but a medium Imagine prefold holds much more than two flats.  

    OP I think I'd just experiment with either two flats or one medium prefold and see which works best.  Be careful to check for gaps around the legs as stuffing that much in might cause them.

    Thanks for the opinions.  I started with the medium imagine prefold last night and that worked.  I'm hoping to use what I have for now rather than purchasing hemp inserts.  I have fitteds for night for later but the the soaker is so wide that they fit him so awkwardly right now.  I'm trying to find something that will work until those fit better in hopefully a month or 2!
