when did your shortness of breath start

I have noticed I am more winded easily, and it became apparent to me in the first trimester.  I am now 25 w  (di/di twin girls) and I notice the shortness of breath in the mornings lately.  Mostly, it feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest.  When did your SOB start?

Re: when did your shortness of breath start

  • I'm almost 29 weeks and I've noticed it a lot more the fast few weeks.  More so when I lay down.  I usually keep myself propped up a bit with pillows otherwise I feel like I'm gasping for breath, lol.

  • Intermittently around 24w, more constantly about 29-30w. I'm also only 5 foot 2, which I think contributes. At 32w5d I'm measuring a fundal height of 42w

  • I started experiencing it as early as 20 weeks, mostly in the evenings.  It is not as much shortness of breath as the inability to get a full breath.  My OB said it is partially because of hormones which make you breathe faster, so you notice when you can't catch a full breath.  Sometimes I feel like I cannot get comfortable and breathe well no matter how I am laying/sitting!

  • I noticed it very early on from the hormonal changes. Now it's almost all the time. I can barely breathe if I'm not lying in the right position. Plus my heart pounds in my chest, which my dr says is from all the extra blood I'm pumping. I'm 26 weeks.
  • Thanks ladies...MW reassured me that this is all normal, too.
