HMO Insurance for baby

I currently have an HMO where my copay is $15. It has been great during this pregnancy since everything has been covered with only having to pay my first copay of $15. My question is when the baby is born and has to go to the doctor a few dozen times that first year (for wellness check ups), do I pay her copay each time for a wellness visit (I know I would for a sick visit). Just wondering!

TIA!

Re: HMO Insurance for baby

  • The affordable care act says well baby visits are preventative care and should be covered without a copay. Unless you have a grandfathered plan, no copay.

  • You should also check what your insurance covers. You should be able to find that information easy peasy in your medical plan documents. If not, I'd set aside an hour and give them a call...the last thing you want after birth is to have to deal with all that insurance mumbo jumbo!

  • Definitely make sure you do the paperwork to set up LO on your insurance. Especially if you don't already have a family plan, it's paperwork you have to actually fill out and submit. If you're not paying any of your premiums now, you may have to start when you add, unless you're covered with the whole family plan already.
