Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby teeth...

My DD is 7 months and just now getting her 2 bottom teeth. The right one is popped through and the left one is right under the skin. My question is, how often do you brush/clean baby's teeth? I know it's recommended that you do it after every time they eat, but I don't always see that being possible. How many times is too many to skip? I've been trying to do it after everything she eats so far, but can't see myself doing it after a MOTN feeding lol.

  • My LO has her 2 bottom teeth now too and this was a question i had asked my pedi. As long as you brush them 2x a day your fine. I usually do once in the morning after her breakfast, and then after her bath at night.

This is what I did with my son. Dd is almost 9 months & hasn't gotten any teeth yet. Hopefully soon!! She's been teething forever!!

  • We brush after every solids meal, so 3 times a day.

  • Honestly I have worked in a pediatric dental office for 15 years and I have seen waaaay too many nursing bottle decay cases, the most important thing you can do is make sure you wipe their teeth whenever they have eaten and you know they are going to fall asleep. The milk no matter if it's breast or bottle will pool around their front teeth between their lips and teeth and start causing decay. At the very least make sure to wipe their teeth before long naps and bedtime! Even if you just wipe with a wash cloth or burp rag toothpaste isn't technically neccesary at this age its the wiping off milk that's important! Good luck they don't usually like it but the earlier you start the more accepting they become of it

My son has 6 teeth already so I use a baby toothbrush twice a day. He actually opens his mouth and lets me brush his teeth. Our pedi also said no toothpaste before age 2.
  • We use spiffies too. Super helpful.
