(it's slow, what the heck)
I know birthdays are still a few months away, and while I don't have a pinterest board up yet I'm starting to think about what we'll do to celebrate. What are your plans this year? BONUS question: If you're already planning on a party, what theme did you choose?

  • We're doing a Minnie mouse theme and her gifts from DH and I will be stuff for our Disney trip in September, like a suitcase, air plane toys, etc!

  • Last year we had a big party for the twins, which I loved and enjoyed planning but it was also super stressful and have no desire to do it again.  This year we're going with something smaller (immediate family and close friends with kids), though I'm still planning on a theme and stalking pinterest.

As for the theme itself, I haven't decided yet.  This year the twins actually have an obession for Mickey/Minnie and Sesame Street, but since it's probably the last year I'll get to pick without them caring,  I'm tempted to go with something more fun to plan like "circus" or "milk & cookies".  Hah.

  • My DH's parents are planning on visiting from Chile this summer and we are thinking of taking them to see the part of the country where I am from. That means we'll have both sets of grandparents for her birthday. Since we live far from both of them, this will be a rare occurrence.  We'll probably do something small at my mom's house.

As for theme, DD loves Dora the Explorer.  So I definitely want to get a Dora cake and maybe a few other things.

  • No idea what yet, but we are going big. Because who doesn't love a party?

  • She loves her dolls, so I would like to use that as a theme, but not sure how that would work out. She also loves her puzzles and books, but since we don't have a TV, she doesn't have a favorite character. I'll keep looking for a better theme, or for a way to make a pretty doll theme.

@Barefoot84 Does she have a favorite book? I got the zoo theme because Tommy loves Dear Zoo.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, or The Very Hungry Caterpillar (but we sort of did that theme last year, for a smaller birthday with my immediate family that couldn't be here for her birthday). We've read Brown Bear, Brown Bear so many times I don't even want to think about the book anymore, let alone plan a party around it  ;)  However, I'll keep books in mind, it's a great idea!

  • @barefoot84 a doll theme sounds cute! I just did a quick google search and saw an idea for a "baby and me" type party. I liked the cute quote on this invite:

We don't know exactly how to go about this. 2 weeks before Evie's birthday is Caz's 1st birthday. I want him to have a real party because she had a real first party. But I don't feel right ignoring her birthday OR making his party hers too. I guess we will figure it out later. No matter how we make it work it will be at my parents house because they have a nicer bigger house and a pool. ETA: all suggestions and themes VERY WELCOME!
@PegLeg715 I have a friend who's kids' birthdays are 2 weeks apart.  Last year she had a combined 1st and 4th circus themed birthday party. The one-year old fell asleep during the clown show but the 4-year old had a blast! This year since her DD turned 5, they only celebrated her birthday and her DS got a cake for his.

I will have a 3 week old when LO turns 2 so I'm going to let Monkey Joe's handle all the festivities for his party.

That's exactly what we did when DD#1 turned 2. I gave them our Elmo theme stuff the night before and it was all set up when we got there.

  • We are hoping to be living back in VT by her birthday and if we are then we will celebrate with family! If we are here in GA then no party just a fun outing.

  • We will just do a low-key BBQ with close family and friends again. I'm not much of a party planner and we don't have the budget to throw a big party.

  • There's a splash park right by our house & I'm contemplating renting a pavilion and having the party there. But regardless it will be smaller - just grandparents & close friends with kids.

@pinkangelmoon I think we will do the same sort of scenario. Party for caz with a cake for Evie as well probably not a circus since I can't imagine Evie sitting through a clown. Maybe a Winnie the Pooh theme. (Side note: H just told me like 5 minutes ago that he heard today that there was a clown shortage in the US. VERY random)
LOL @ the clown shortage!  Who knew??
  • We're probably going to do a Character Breakfast at one of the Disney Hotels with a few family members. She loves MMC and Jake so hopefully she'll have a good time.

We had originally thought about doing Magic Kingdom for her birthday, but I really don't think she'll enjoy it just yet.

  • @pegleg75 - I say go combo party. Neither will remember. Maybe a theme like "one - two - buckle my shoe." Kinda corny ...

  • We're probably going to do the same as last year, BBQ outside at my parents' house. We had immediate family and a few close friends, which was around 30 people or so. I think we're going to do a monster theme with lots of bright colors- I've found a bunch of cute ideas on Pinterest.

This would be amazing. We could do a tea party with all the little kids and their dolls. However, most of our friends have kids slightly younger than Tumaini, and now I'm thinking this could be a great idea for her third birthday, when she'll be able to play along more with the theme, and when her friends will be able to participate more. I might just do something simple this summer, like Sunshine and butterflies (we call her Sunshine) and then do a big party for her third birthday, with the tea party and doll theme (I may or may not have spent more time on Pinterest than on my work project once this thread got going).

  • @missmusic - skip*hop now has a panda for their zoo line that is super adorable. You could always get Lillian the Panda pieces and then do red and polka-dots for any other decorations. Love the panda :)

Further to that red being a colour representing good luck in the Chinese culture might be a good combination for pairing.

  • We're probably doing cake and pizza at the local pool/splash pad or at my father in law's pool.  I due the following week, so I need something low stress and low work.

We'll probably do bubble guppies since he LOVES it.  He watches it every morning while I get ready for work.

  • Can't edit so new post... My comment was meant as an agreement with Nextverse, and thinking red made a good pairing...

Not meant to be an assumption that MM and NVU didn't know that already.
  • i say small but who knows. its not going to be like her first. im just going to do pizza, but i;ll go out with decorations.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking of this already!!!

We are doing a Berenstain Bear theme (Z loves the Berenstain Bears more than me I think).  I wish we could make it smaller, but the only place we can cut is to not invite DH's aunts, uncles, and cousins (so Z's great aunts/uncles & second cousins, which is 15+ people) and that will piss MIL off to no end despite the fact that I am willing to cut the three people from my side who fall in that category so things are fair.  Luckily, where DH works there are multiple party spaces we can use free of charge, so unless all of them get booked by paying parties (highly unlikely) we at least have a space besides our house.  Now just to pay to feed all of those people.

  • We were going to do a weekend at my parent's beach condo with my family and the IL's but then my little sis had to go get knocked up and is due right before his Bday and since she can't travel, we want to stay at home so she can be there. So we will probably do a small get together with family and maybe a few close friends. Nothing like his 1st Bday.
