Appointment Update

Not great...well, pretty horrible. That pretty much sums up my appointment. I am showing a lot more eggs than Saturday's appointment (see check-in post), which is great. My doctor was happy about that. However, they aren't growing very much. I've been on the max dose of Follistim since Wednesday and my eggs look like they should on CD3. My doc is quite concerned about this and I will be starting Menopur tomorrow in addition to the Follistim. There is now a small but very real chance that we won't be able to use my own eggs. I'm scared, anxious, insanely angry at my body and our situation, and somewhat devastated after my appointment. I go back again on Friday and I'm praying that the eggs have responded favorably to all the meds. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would have this problem to worry about on top of everything else. I just feel so defeated today.

I am so sorry. I hope that you can find the right combo of meds for you! Hang on tight because in the middle of stimming it is truly all you can do.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I really hope that your next appointment shows significant progress.

I had my first IVF cycle cancelled because of poor response and my second cycle looked like it was going to be cancelled (and me cancelled with it--because if it wasn't working on max dose stims my RE didn't think we should keep trying with me). Mine did eventually pick up and we were able to go through with retrieval, albeit with much lower results than we originally anticipated/expected.

FWIW, my ovaries seemed to pick up more when we increased my Menopur dose (I was doing lower menopur and higher bravelle and the RE decided to try increasing the Menopur and lowering the bravelle). This could have been coincidence (ie I was a slow starter and the pickup coincidentally occurred when the Menopur was increased). I hope that your body does respond well to the Menopur and that you get to have a good retrieval.

To play off of what @Healz413 said (because she's my partner) --

One thing to think about as well is how long you've been stimming for. Our RE was pretty firm that she didn't want us stimming more than 12-13 days, she figured anything longer would impact egg quality and outweigh the risk/benefit ratio for us given how high doses H was on.

For us, it was difficult to cancel that first cycle, but it felt much better to come back to it fresh and see responses sooner on a different med.

I never responded to Follistim myself. If I had been doing IVF I suspect I would have very similar results to you. FWIW I did respond to menopur when we tried a clomid/menopur combo cycle. In our IVF cycle H. also responded better to Bravelle and Menopur than gonal-f. The meds your on can make a huge difference. In the end, even though our 2nd IVF gave us a disappointing number of good eggs, we were really happy we cancelled that first cycle because we would always wonder....

So sorry you're feeling down. It's so hard!! Please try to take good care of yourself, it's incredibly stressful when a cycle isn't going as planned. I hope your next appt goes surprisingly well!
