One & Done: Only child

Greetings from Stockholm!

Hiya ladies!  In light of the recent sensationalist car seat article I thought you all might like to hear a fun story from my work trip.  Today as I lunched in old town, there was a line of strollers parked outside the restaurant......with babies sleeping in them and no caregivers in sight.  I'd heard this was common in the Nordic countries, but it was really amazing to see.

It reminds me that we choose whether or not to buy into sensationalist media crap, and we really can live with less fear if want to.

Imagine sweet little bundles in puff snow suits and hats snoozing outside while Moms enjoyed coffee and lunch in the restaurant.

In other news, Stockhom is beautiful, cold and the food is sub-par. H is getting a new sailor suit and the husband is getting a bag of candy. Momma is getting a bunch of new clothes but not until I make to London this weekend and invade Top Shop.

I'll try and post a picture of the sailor suit later, but I honestly don't know how, so it might take me awhile.  Hope you all are still snoozing away happily!

  • I think it is pretty cool that they leave the strollers outside while the parents enjoy lunch indoors. But to be honest, it always stresses me out about whether or not to put on the rain cover on the stroller. I can never decide if it is too cold or not. But I do have friends from Northern Europe that leave their kids outside to nap.

  • Snoozing? I've been up for hours :P

I love Stockholm. Of course, I haven't been there in 20 years. But it was beautiful 20 years ago. And really neat story about the babies sleeping with no care! Not sure I'm ready to do that ;) But interesting!

  • @Chapter79,I think I could do it if I was by the window! I read the article probably 6 or 7 months ago and thought it was neat, but to see it in reality is pretty amazing.  Little pink faces sticking out of bundles, rosy cheeks and stuff. It was probably especially cute to me because I"m missing H so much.  He fell and got a little cut near his eye at daycare yesterday. Totally fine and everything, but it hurts being so far away.

@Dulcemariamar1 the little umbrella parts were up on the strollers, but its just freezing here, so I think it would probably snow before it rained.

Also, everyone seemed to have really nice strollers.  The big baskety ones that I'm blanking on the name of.  Swedish brands, not ours, but they all looked "expensive." Maybe it's that more people walk, but I didn't see a single car seat type, even with tiny, tiny babies.

  • Yes, that's a whistle. A bought it a bit big so he can wear it on his birthday in May. My all male co-workers seem to think I'm a bit cruel but I've only got one kid and dressing him like a dork is my prerogative, well, at least until he puts his foot down. I figure I've got a few years right? Three, four, that's when they get a preference right?
  • OMG that is SO stinking cute :)
