Co-sleeper vs Pack N Play

Hi - I'm 19 weeks pregnant with my first and am pretty clueless about what I need to get. But I really like the idea of a co-sleeper (like the Arm's Reach) for the first month or so while I'm getting used to everything and figuring out the whole breastfeeding thing. I like the idea of having the baby so close to me. I was wondering if the Pack N Play offers the same kind of advantages if you were to use it in your room? I know some of them come with a bassinet feature and was wondering what the difference would be. Thoughts?

Re: Co-sleeper vs Pack N Play

  • We didn't do a co-sleeper with DS, but we put the bassinet next to the bed (I barely had room to get out between the bed and bassinet).  I had a c-section, too, and didn't have any issues reaching DS while recovering.  I'd think if the pack 'n play has a bassinet feature, you'd get the same benefit plus the longer term use of having the pnp.
  • I am a FTM, but I went with the Pack N Play.  I think we will be able to use it longer.

I'm the same way. I'm an FTM abd will use a pack n play instead.of a co-sleeper or bassinet. I put together the pack n play and it's actually higher than a bassinet so I'm thinking it would be way better than a bassinet.
  • I would recommend checking out the RocknPlay. That is what I used for both my babies.

THIS. The rock n play rules.

  • I was just looking at the rock n play. Never heard of it.
Just FYI. Also read some of the reviews. Some not so good. Some would use this as a night sleeper and ended up deforming their babies head. One had to have PT and wear a helmet.
I am mobile so would have to research more but before I would purchase.

There were lots of great reviews also. I have not had time to look into it more.
Some where older reviews so maybe they changed the product a bit.

Maybe if you don't use it as a night time sleeper it would be ok.
I need to research more. Just thought I would mention.

Many of the co-sleepers convert to pack and plays. They can do co-sleeper mode, freestanding bassinet and play yard all in one.

Good to know about the co sleeper. I was given one but have not opened it yet. Might have to check it out. Thanks

  • I bought the Nuna Sena mini and love it.  There's also a regular sized one if you prefer.
