When to transition to cups?

My dd is 14 months old. She currently uses the take and toss sippys. Should I transition her to a learning cup? Or are the sippys ok to use a little longer? Thanks!

Re: When to transition to cups?

  • My LO is 20 months old and we've been giving him an open cup of water with supper 2 or 3 times a week for the last month or so.  He'll also drink out my water glass with help if he sees me with it.  Otherwise he uses straw cups for water and milk.

  • WE do straw cups but once in a blue moon I'll let him drink out from my water glass with my help.

I have bought the Sassy training cups for DS, BUT DS loves to turn his cups upside down and bang them on the table/floor.  The Sassy cups leak a lot when DS does this, and I end up with huge puddles of water all over the house.

  • Truthfully we have been doing open cups since about 8 months, but he doesn't walk with them he must be sitting.  He is very good at holding a cup but if he walked it is hard for him to keep it straight.  I don't think it is awful that you LO isn't but it isn't a bad habit to start up.

  • I have a couple closed cups with lids (no spouts) we will practice with those first. I haven't had any luck with straw cups. She just likes to chew and play with the straw
