Pelvic girdle pain

Did a little poking around because I was having some nasty problems I assumed to be sciatic nerve pain. Apparently, my symptoms more closely align to pelvic girdle pain. I guess it can mimic sciatic pain, but it's actually caused by the softened joints and ligaments moving. There are some exercises to lock your pelvis back up, and upon trying them, the problem is greatly diminished. I will have to talk to my doctor and see if he thinks this is the problem as well, but I just thought I'd say somethin' in case anyone else was having sciatic like pain..

Re: Pelvic girdle pain

  • Yesterday my right hip started hurting like hell out of nowhere, to the point that it wouldn't bear weight. Ice packs and rest have helped, but maybe that's what's up. Any links to the exercises?

  • Look into a support belt as your belly gets bigger too :) I know I'll be wearing one soon.

  • I am also having this ! My ob old me it was pelvic girdle pain. She asked if I remember having it with my first pregnancy and I did but more around the end and she informed me that if you had it before you will most likely get it again and almost immediately and sometimes more severe-this is my situation #-o

Oh, great!  I remember this in the last months of pregnancy very vividly.  Felt like I was being split like a wishbone.  Now that I'm a lot older and have had spine surgery, I'm getting a little scared of how quickly this will come this time around.  Yikes!

  • Also look into seeing a physical therapist. I ended up still being in pain 10 months after DS was born. I'd had problems after DDs birth but it had just gone away so I was expecting the same. When it didn't, I finally saw a PT. I hate that my midwives chalked it up to normal pregnancy pains all along with both pregnancies. Had the mentioned PT I'd have gotten help a lot sooner. They instead kind of made me feel like I was over reacting. That shit hurts though!

  • Sorry, sorry! I posted before work, and I worked all day, came home, and slept ever since. I'm on mobile and not sure I can find the right link, but I know one thing it said to do is if you're laying down, pull your knees up as much as bump will allow, and try to roll from laying to sitting, and it'll lock your pelvis back. If you're walking, swing your arms like you're marching and it'll force your pelvis to lock as well. And it did say you could find a support belt. I will be talking to my ob about it.

Old post I know but I'm pretty sure this is what I'm experiencing and omg pain! Have appointment with OB tomorrow to see if he agrees with my self-diagnosis, then an appointment Friday with a physiotherapist. Really hoping they can help :(

Have you ladies found much relief yet?

  • I never got it diagnosed, but I found the exercises I mentioned in a previous post help with it, and it only seems to happen if I have been working all day or have been doing something a little more strenuous. For the most part I am doing better though. :) good luck to you and I hope you get relief soon!!
