slip on the ice

this darned weather.  so i slipped and fell this morning.  i fell on my butt and then hit my head.  i feel fine-no back pain, no cramps, no bleeding, no headache.  but i mentioned it to someone here at work and she made me call the doc and leave a message.  the receptionist said she might have me get checked out anyway but i'm still waiting for a call back.
has anyone else fallen this winter?

Re: slip on the ice

  • I haven't fallen this winter, but when I was pregnant with DS I tripped and fell in the middle of Times Square.  That was awesome...

  • I fell and landed on my butt thank god no one saw but just to be sure check with dr :)
  • I slipped and fell on my knees in the BRU parking lot about 15 minutes after my elective u/s.  Brilliant.  My back hurt for the next day or so but everything seems to be fine.  Guess we'll see at the a/s on the 10th.

  • I'm not going to answer and jinx myself -- as it is still very icy outside.

Hitting your head though -- make sure to ask them what to look for in terms of concussion.  I hope you are okay though and won't be too sore later on.  Please take care.

  • Even with no cramps I'd be worried about your head.

  • I have fallen multiple times this pregnancy. First a flight of stairs. Couple times in my driveway on ice. My gym parking lot and just the other day at work in the kitchen on a slippery floor. The first fall bruised my tailbone, it has been trying to heal since but my clumsiness isn't helping. At least I can sit now without pain. With all my falls the baby is fine. Though I never hit my head. If I were you I would go in. Just to be safe.
  • My stupid dog once took off up a hill where we live an I kept calling him an he wouldn't come, so finally I hiked up the hill an found him. Going up was one thing but coming down was another. The hill is very steep an coming down I slipped an feel on my back an slid about a few feet. I was so so worried that I might of lost the baby. I wasn't cramping or spotting or anything but I called my doc an she reassured me that as long as I wasn't cramping or bleeding the baby would be fine. The baby is extremely protected inside an any bumps or nudges would hurt you before the baby. The following week I went in for my A/S an the baby was healthy an jumping around like a Mexican jumping bean.
  • Went Cross country sking yesterday and fell 2 times baby is find he's in there and moving like a fish an kicking up a storm. I am not worried about him but would be if I had cramping or bleeding. Doc said so long as I don't fall on my stomach I should be good.
  • thanks for all the replies and stories.  my doc said to go to the er if my head starts hurting but otherwise not to worry as long as there's no cramping or bleeding.  sigh of relief.  kind of what i thought anyway but that coworker freaked me out.

  • I fell outside the doctor's office & bruised my knee. No ice. Just me.

  • Glad to hear you are ok! I slipped and fell in January. Totally freaked myself out. My Uggs got wet and my garage floor is apparently very slipper when wet. So, down I went. My left hip and butt took the impact but I didn't have any other symptoms. Called DH right away and he asked me all the right questions (he is a doctor) and we determined I just needed to sit and calm down. It's so scary to fall when you are carrying such precious cargo!! That said.....I can not wait for all this snow/ice to disappear and spring to get here!

  • I am glad you heard back from your doctor and all appears to be okay!

I fell on the ice while ice skating this winter (yes, looks like I shouldn't have been skating, right?)  It was my Dad's first time skating and he started to fall, so I reached out to help him grab the railing.  He instinctively tried to use me to steady himself and brought me down with him.  He felt terrible afterwards.  I fell kind of slow mo on my side, and I was only 11 weeks at the time, so the baby was pretty cushioned and not really impacted at all.

  • I've slipped a couple times but haven't gone down yet, knock on wood. There's still a lot of winter to go though!

Girl, I hope you just wear tennis shoes everywhere now.

  • Oh gosh! Glad you're ok. There is ice just about everywhere in my neighborhood. It's pretty bad. I have to walk a lot as well so, this has become a problem. At first I'd have to walk super slow and would occasionally slip a bit. But I got those things that you can put on the bottom of your shoes that help you walk across the ice without slipping. I love em!
  • Glad you're ok!

  • I slipped in my tub a few weeks back. I called my doctor and she said everything was most likely OK, but had me come in so they could check the heartbeat. They ended up also doing a real quick ultrasound to calm my nerves. In the end, I was happy they had me come in. It made me feel so much better afterwards. FYI, I don't know if you go to a chiropractor, but when mine found out I fell she said she wanted me in right away to ease the back pain I had. I did feel so much better after getting adjusted.

I am glad you and the baby are doing well. Hopefully there will be no more ice this winter.

  • I fell at the bottom of my driveway last week. I went out to walk the dog and she pulled unexpectedly. Luckily there was a huge snow pile at the end of the driveway that I fell into

  • I only wear sneakers. I would be much worse in anything else.
  • I fell on Saturday (2/15) and sprained my ankle REALLY bad.  I was going to a daycare provider training and was in such a hurry to reach a bathroom after checking in, I was rushing and slipped in a lonely hallway.  Thank God for Cellphones!  Called my husband because I couldn't get up off the floor myself and no one was within three hallways of myself and I was a bit late so no one was walking by either.  It was so painful!  I don't remember the fall and I have such a low pain tolerance I think I passed out after making the phone call.  Anyway, hubby got there 45 minutes later and got me onto my feet, but we had stairs to tackle and that wasn't going to happen.  So he went and got three women from the training who helped carry me up the stairs, down a hallway and down the ICY stairs outside to his truck.  Needless to say, we went to ER because I passed out, thought I had broke my foot and needed some pain relief.  May still have a hairline fracture they couldn't see on the X-rays, but I feel much better to some extent, except my pride has been bruised!  ;-) They didn't check baby in the ER so I did call my doctor yesterday because my body felt like I had been hit by a semi and so they went in and found its heart and said all is fine.  My A/S is this Monday anyway, so no U/S to check up, as much as I wish I would have been able to see it!
