Standing in crib...what to do

LO has learned to pull herself up...yay!! Problem is she does it when she should be going to sleep. I get her tucked in and then as soon as I leave the room she pops up and laughs at me when I walk back in. I would just leave her, but a) she falls and bonks her head/face and b) I think she would do this forever. This afternoons naptime was an hr of me laying her back down. I know she was tired as she's passed out in my arms right now after I gave in and rocked her.

What are you ladies doing about this wonderful new skill?

Re: Standing in crib...what to do

  • Mine did this for like a week until she clued on how to sit down and then lay down and go to sleep. I would just go in every couple minutes, lay her down and promptly walk away and close her door. Thank goodness it was a short stage.

  • Thanks. Hoping it's a short phase and she doesn't get hurt.

  • My LO stands in his crib. In fact the other night I put him down and went to leave the room. When I turned to close the door he was standing there laughing. I continued to close his down and said good night. He never made a beep after that. He just layed down and fell asleep. Give her time, she should figure out how to just lay back down and go to sleep.

  • My LO did this too. As time goes on she learned to sit down and put herself back to sleep. She does it more at nap time then bed time. Give it a little time and she'll get it !

This is what we resorted to last night after laying her back down 5000000 times. While I love rocking her to sleep, doing this has ways bitten me in the butt for motn wake ups. Last night was fine so I guess we'll just see what happens.

  • I can tell you w hat I did, but I wouldn't recommend it because it's causing larger problems.  I was nervous about her falling, so now we bed share.  She no knows how to sit back down, but won't leave our bed without screaming.

Oh no. Bed sharing doesn't work in my house.

  • Thanks Petra. I'm trying to leave her be and accept that she will fall. It's really really hard as I'm so used to being right next to her so that I can catch her.

When S started figuring out how to sit up on her own this happened:

    https://youtu.be/eKAKGAtaQnc

She ended up falling asleep just a lil bit after I recorded this and yup, she fell over, and bumped her head. BUT she went to sleep. She did this for a couple nights, and eventually figured out how to lie down when she got tired.

  • After a week or 2 my guy finally figured out how to sit back down. It's much better now, hang in there!
  • Thanks ladies. She has learned to sit back down, but when it comes to sleep, she plays for a bit and then screams bloody murder until I come in, hug and kiss her and lay her down. It's like she's ready to sleep when she starts screaming and not before.
