Recommendations for Glider/Rocker (SS concern)

Now that we know LO's sex, we're starting to focus on the kids' bedroom.  With DD, we had a standard glider/ottoman combo (which was gently used when we bought it).  The problem is, DH is "Big & Tall" (think football player) and this didn't work out well for him.  He isn't comfortable in it and it has started to break down quite a lot over time.  He has always loved to rock DD and, unfortunately, didn't get to do this often.  :(

Any recommendations for a VERY sturdy glider/rocker, preferably with a taller back?  I don't care so much about the ottoman, as we didn't use it, so a combo isn't necessary.  BRU has a few options, but nothing I'm overly impressed with at this point.  Thanks in advance!  :D

Re: Recommendations for Glider/Rocker (SS concern)

  • My DH is 6'5 and we are putting our leather Lazyboy in the baby's room. It's a really pretty weathered brown so I am okay with it (I'm a little OCD about decor, lol.) He was pretty adament about this because it's the only comfy chair he has tested. I know they make large upholstered gliders, but the ones I like are close to $1000, and it would be painful to spend that much on a rocking chair!!

  • We're considering a Lazy Boy rocker-recliner instead of a glider.  We wanted to get one for our living room anyways, so we will just pick up an extra one for the baby's room.  I am plus size and my DH is a big guy, so it will be more comfortable for both of us.  Might be something you want to consider!

  • I agree about the lazy boy recliner. We bought a very comfy glider for DD and rarely used it because it was more comfy to recline (since we slept a lot in the chair at first). We use the glider now that she is bigger but it rarely got used when she was little.

  • We went with a rocker recliner instead of glider. They have a larger selection and my husband (also big/tall) was able to find one that was comfortable in.

  • I was able to score a beautiful Dutailier glider (plus ottoman) for $75 on Craigslist. I suggest just stalking the baby listings to see if you can find a deal on one.

  • Lazy Boy, like PP suggested. Or at least a rocker/recliner. We are getting a similar brand.

  • I'll have to check which ours is but I remember we got it specifically because it came in a larger size. My DH is 6'1" and maybe 210-220 or so and he sits in it every night for bedtime stories.

  • La-z-boy. Hands down the best. It's not that much more than a rocker at BRU, and it is better quality. They have different heights for seat backs, different widths, you can turn it into a glider, and it's the only brand where you can recline and rock at the same time. I can't say enough good things about ours. We will be getting a new one for this baby, but DS has the one that my grandma rocked me in when I was little. We recovered it ourselves. They clearly last forever.

Thank you all for the suggestions!  I asked DH about this on our way home from work and we came up with the idea to check into a rocker/recliner, too.  I'm determined to get something he can enjoy this time, even if it means a little more cost.  Since we're on #2, we won't have that many major expenses, right...???   ;)
