Tandem nursing/pregnant nursing

I can't find the search on my phone, I hope this isn't a double post, if so, please link me.

I am still nursing DD and here we are. We are down to night, nap and morning but just can't leap those hurdles yet. I am fine with night but would love to totally wean nap and morning. I am not planning on tandem nursing but it is kinda heading that way. Anyone else?

  • Me. I wasn't planning on tandem nursing either but I kind of give up on weaning right now. We have actually cut out morning and night. Nap is our biggest hurdle. So we'll see if I can get that one worked out by July.

  • I think this is out last week of nursing. It just hurts so much lately, I don't think I can do it any longer. It's going to break my heart to have to tell her no, but I wasn't keen on the idea of tandem nursing, either, so I guess we'll make do.

  • How old is everyone's LO? Mine is 28 months or 2.5 years. She took night weaning amazingly well but yes @iris427 nap is the hardest by far. We bed share and I can sneak out in the morning, at bedtime she only nurses for about 10 minutes before I cut her off and she turns over and puts herself to sleep, but nap is a nightmare. And as an added crap show, it is the only time I feel nursing aversions but she will absolutely not nap without nursing.

  • Mine is turning 3 at the end of April.  He has been slowly cutting back on his own, and I'm also having some success telling him he can only nurse for a few minutes.  It definitely hurts so when he is tired and wants to nurse for a longer amount of time, it's challenging.  I'm also worried about jealousy when the new baby is here and nursing, but I guess we'll deal with that if it happens

  • My DD turns 2 on Thursday. We haven't nursed at night for a while now, just first thing in the morning.

  • I am worried about the jealousy too. I keep reaffirming how she is a big girl and eats big girl foods but she definitely isn't impressed.

  • I plan on tandem nursing but that has always been the plan. DD will be 18 months in July. We night weaned, which is nice because I don't nurse in the middle of the night anymore, but I don't mind the morning, 2-3 times during the day and again to sleep.

  • DD is 23 months old and we're down to two sessions - AM and right when I pick her up from daycare.  I hadn't planned on tandem nursing but I've chickened out on weaning. Now it doesn't seem to matter because yesterday, she nursed for two minutes and said she didn't like it.  I think my milk is turning into colostrum.  This morning she said it was yucky.  So I'm thinking she's one of the kids you hear about who self-weans because of the colostrum.

  • Right now LO (18 months old) is hanging on to the morning session. She tends to wake up early so I bring her in bed with us and before she wakes up for the day she enjoys snuggle time with nursing. I'm hoping to

  • I guess I should say I did plan on tandem when we started ttc, but it took over a year and now I feel less into it. I am just worried about the logistics but I guess it will work out. Yes, night weaning was a major game changer! If I had known how easy it would be I woul have done it long ago!

  • Tomorrow is our last day nursing.  We have been counting down on a calendar and are having a little party (just the three of us but DD loves an excuse for a cupcake and balloon).  I have been completely out of milk since about 10 weeks and I am just over it.  We also had lots of supply issues with DD and I just want to tackle getting this new LO on and getting supply worked out without having to deal with DD's needs.  She and her dad are going to the grandparents this weekend so that's why I picked tomorrow as our last day.  She isn't going to be happy about it but it is what it is.  DD is almost 34 months.

  • Interesting thread! I'm mostly a lurker here but considering tandem more and more. My dd is 15 months with no signs of weaning anytime soon. She sleeps 12-13 hours at night and only nurses 4 times a day at max. I thought by now the taste would change and she'd wean, but I swear she likes it more now.

Yes, I keep asking DD if the milk is good or yucky tryin to dig for info and she still says "good!" So I don't know. I was hoping the taste/supply would help her self wean but not so far. She is still way into it.

Yea, if I had seen this thread the first time I was pregnant, omg, I would side-eye so hard. I didn't even think I wanted to BF let alone for 2+ years, while pregnant and maybe with another. Ha. You never know!
