Breast pumps- suggestion on what type to get?

I have Aetna insurance and just found out I'm covered 100% to get a breast pump. Never thought I would be so happy about that!
I have three options: all are double breast pumps
1. Hygeia Q breast pump with tote bag
2. Ameda purely yours breast pump
3. Medela advanced portable double breast pump without accessories

I am clueless about which one to get. Any suggestions???

  • I'm in the same boat :/ not sure what one to choose. I did a teeny bit of research and a lot of comments that info

.. That I found said that the hygeia was hard to find alternate bottles to fit.. Not sure how true that is..
  • I only have experience with Medela.but liked it a lot. They have good customer service as well. Standard sized bottles should fit it. There are adapters for wide neck bottles.

  • I have Aetna also but my options are the same except I have another option in place of the hygeia one. I am going for the Medela just because I've heard the most good things about that one.
  • I have Aetna also, I ended up getting the Hygeia EnJoye (basically the same thing as the Q, only with a handle) after reading lots of good reviews about it.

  • I had to make sure I hadn't already responded to this thread because it's been asked so many times.

    I have a Medela pump, it's great.

  • I also have Aetna and ordered the Medela one. The girl I spoke with said that is the most commonly ordered one. Plus I know they carry the accessories in stores. It looks like I should get it tomorrow :)
  • My SIL has the below Medela Double electric pump and loves it.

  • I'm usually the odd vote against medela. My work provided a medela symphony hospital grade pump in the lactation room. I didn't like it at all. I thought my cheap lansinoh manual pump was much more comfortable and more efficient. I don't know which pump I'll get for work this time around but it won't be a medela. My lactation consultant recommended hygeia.

  • I recommend renting a hospital grade pump.  If you have supply issues like I did, it works so much better.  You might check with your insurance on whether they would cover the rental fees.

  • With my last pregnancy, I got the Ameda Purely Yours and loved it. This time, I'm going with Hygeia. I used the Symphony in the hospital with the twins and hated it. Got much better results with my Ameda. My choice for the Hygeia is purely because I still have my Ameda and my Ameda is closed system, so I'm going to buy new parts for it and then I'll have 2 different pumps to try. I'll see which one I get the best results with and keep the other as a spare :)
