Kate_C -- neck / chiro...

So, I have an appt tomorrow at that placce that my OBGYN recommended for the neck pain... FYI, it is BETTER, but not fixed... but today they called to confirm my appt and they will only be doing a consult tomorrow, and then I'll have to schedule some follow up appointments to get any actual adjustments / pain relief.

I am beyond frustrated by this because I've been waiting over 2 weeks already for this appt.

So I just called Southside Chiro and they can get me in at 4 PM today!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never been to a chiro before and I'm nervous and apprehensive about it, but I am in so much pain and discomfort, last night I had a terrible migraine and I am having trouble sleeping.

I'm NOT seeing Dr H, she was booked, but Dr. B (Burrell?), and I am very hopeful....

Thank you for the commendation.  I am counting down the hours until this appt.

  • I hope you have a good experience now! I only went there twice while pregnant and liked it. It's a nice family friendly place. I had the toddler in two for one visit and they were really nice about it. They also sent me a gift for DD after I wrote a nice note about my easy delivery when I sent in my payment. :)

Where did your OB refer you that took you so long to get in?! That's crazy.

  • It is a place in Apple Valley called Johnson Spinal Care, and they specialize in a technique called "NUCCA" (upper cervical spine)... it took 2 weeks to get an appt, and after I talked to them today, they said it would take even longer to get in for actual treatment - today is just a consult. I almost bust into tears when she said that, because I've been struggling so much for the past two weeks.  It has gotten moderately better after my massage last week, but still isn't fixed.

I am hopeful!  I just hope it isn't the "now come back and see us every week!" thing... we'll see.  In the meantime, my OB is writing me a referral for the physical therapist, which I'll do if today's appt doesn't work.

I'm really nervous but I feel better knowing you've had good luck there!

  • Kate I just pulled up outside -- I could walk here from my old house, have driven by it a thousand times. Hilarious.

Thanks...it went well. Not 100% relief but significantly better and I have an appt for next tuesday again if necessary.  She applied this homeopathic migraine ointment at the end that was pretty amazing too... so fingers crossed that I'll still be mostly pain-free tomorrow!

    Thanks for the recommendation!
I cancelled the appt for tomorrow with the other place - I was too annoyed that it was taking them so long to treat me..

  • Glad your first chiro experience went well! Not as scary as you expected? They are pretty crunchy granola there but if it works, who cares? Hope it continues to improve. One nice thing about that office is that they just treat you til you feel better instead of selling you a whole package of treatments whether you need them or not. Get yourself an Rx massage through health insurance too. ;)

I know you posted before about your neck issue but I can't remember exactly what it was. I had issues with my cervical spine for like 5 years - I had a bulging disc that would cause tons of pain and my arm would go numb, I could never get comfortable, etc. So I tried therapy for a long time, and at first, it worked. Then I had cortisone injections, which seemed to help somewhat. Then I got a home traction unit - which was awesome. Then I finally had surgery and it's been amazing. It's like all the pain just got erased. I was even back on my bike about a month later! I went to the chiro once and it scared the shit out of me! If my issue is completely different than yours then just ignore this post. But be careful at the chiro!
Thanks for the heads up!  I don't think this is a disk issue of any sort because I'm not having any pain or numbness in the shoulders or arms or anything...really, it is just a sore / stiff neck, which is probably worse than usual and harder to treat on account of pregnancy. I am being careful though, because they've always scared me to... but I'm desperate!

@Kate_C, yes, if it truly helps I'm all in favor... the reputation I've always been taught about is that they cause issues rather than correct them, and then keep you coming back for treatment rather than fix the cause of the issue.  However, I Had a good experience today and I liked the woman working on me a lot... also, I liked that even without insurance it would only be $45?!?!?  That's amazing.  So I'll give it another few sessions if necessary!  She seemed very sympathetic to my situation of pregnancy + pain + 10 month old... she has a 2 year old herself and said she got adjusted through her pregnancy,so I felt comfortable with that.
