Anemia

My little girl is anemic :( we just went to her 12 month appt and had her blood rerun, she was low at her 9 month appt too. She gets bad bm's from iron supplements, now we have to take her to a pediatric hematologist. I pray it is nothing and treatment is easy.

    I hope so too! DS was anemic as well and fortunately the supplements and giving him snacks with iron helped.  Does she like those gerber puffs? they have a good bit of iron in them! Good luck!

    She loves the puffs, eats quite a few. She like meats and finger foods. She eats well. Iron supplements just aren't helping, plus they give her awful black poops. That's why we're going to see a specialist.

    My DD is also anemic, and on Iron supplements.  How long has your daughter been on the iron supplement?  The first two weeks were the worst for us.  She would either have explosive black diarrhea or she was constipated.  It changed to steady constipation after the first two weeks, so now we give her a half teaspoon of miralax every night.  But, it is still black (and alternates between being formed and a large amount of a mashed potato like substance).

    I'd be interested to know what happens after you see the Hematologist.
