S/O Nightmares

The night terror thread got me thinking of DD's nightmares. She seems to have a recurring one where cookie monster bites her back. She's not afraid of him during the day. It's weird.

She's also scared of shadows. I have a tough time getting her back to bed after she wakes to use the potty. She keeps coming out of her room saying she needs a tissue, another potty break, is scared, etc. I thought she was stalling, but I'm starting to wonder if she's scared of her room. One night she went to lay down on the couch and slept till morning. I let her do that 2 more times. Each time she slept right through.

Am I creating a bad habit with couch sleeping? She has a night light in her room. I don't know why she'd be scared in there. I tried asking her, but she just says she's scared of shadows. We talked about shadows and made shadow puppets. I don't know what else to do.

  • Maybe point out each shadow you see and what object is making the shadow?  So she knows its just stuff in her room.  String Christmas lights on the ceiling?  GL.

  • @uconnhuskie007 We tried everything you did, minus the dream catcher. I'm guessing our kids have overactive imaginations. I just don't know why sleeping in the living room is not scary, but sleeping in her room is.

Does the living room have a night light? No night light = no shadows maybe???

There's one in the kitchen nearby, so it's not completely dark. Maybe I'll try taking the night lamp out and just leave her the constellation turtle.
