Re: Pregnancy Check-in
We are 37w4d and I am so excited to say we are having babies this week! We have an induction set for exactly 38 weeks this Thursday and it can not come soon enough! J has pregnancy induced hives all over her body (PUPP) and they itch so bad she can't sleep and is breaking her skin when she itches. Last night we had to keep cool towels all over her to help control the itching. Of course that's on top of dealing with the physical pains of carrying twins this far. They estimate she is carrying around 12 lb of baby (on top of two placentas, etc...)
We might beg to be induced during the Tue appt because it is so bad. She is not a cryer but has broken down in tears multiple times in the last few days because she just can't take anymore.
BUT on the bright side we get to meet our baby girls this week, yay!!!!!!!
I am particularly excited to try out breastfeeding. We decided that after birth, if everyone is healthy, we will each do skin to skin with one baby and do their first feeding. I could not be more excited! After that, we will prioritize J breastfeeding until her milk comes in but I suspect I will get to do some supplementing because there are two babies. Overall, my inducing lactation experience has been way more successful than I expected. I am already making 16+ oz a day and it still goes up a little everyday. If anyone is thinking about trying it, or already doing it, I would love to chat
QOTD: We are done with everything important right now but I suspect there will be odds and ends after they are born we may need to get. My MIL is staying with us now through next month. I didn't know how it was going to work out but so far it has been GREAT! I love having another pair of hands around the house (she is so very helpful) and it makes me feel more prepared for the babies' arrival.
I hope everyone has a great week!
I am 24w6 days today. EDD is June 3rd. Not too much to report this week. Baby is growing and so am I. Baby is pretty active most days, which makes me happy.
QOTW: I am a bit of a crazy person when it comes to planning/preparing, so I am anxious about getting things crossed off the baby to-do list early. Here is what we have done so far:
The next things that I hope to tackle very soon:
My biggest anxiety is all of the some-what last minute things that we will have to do right up near the end before baby arrives... packing hospital bag, installing carseat, etc. I fear we will not be ready...

I feel good and while I definitely look pregnant in certain clothes and my belly has grown, I don't have a true bump and I can't feel movement yet. We've passed all our screening tests and won't have an ultrasound again until 28w unless there is an issue. My next appointment is next Wednesday (2/26), but I think it's just a quick pee/weight/doppler thing.
I finally went back to the gym this morning, which felt good. Going to try to make that happen more.
We had a big baby weekend in terms of preparation, so this is a good segue to the QOTW!
QOTW: This weekend we registered at BRU and went on a maternity clothes shopping spree (I had a few gift cards and Destination Maternity was having a big redline sale, so I got a ton of stuff without paying any of my own money). We've been slowly doing more research and adding more to the registry online. We also chose a crib and changing table and ordered them...although we're trying to cancel the changing table order as the next day we found out there is a dresser up for grabs in my grandmother's house (which my dad is trying to clean out and sell) that would work perfectly. This week we also put our deposit down for daycare. We've gotten some recommendations for 2nd parent adoption attorneys, and I've met with HR to start getting everything set up for my parental leave.
We still have to: register for childbirth class (we have done some research, but are waiting to confirm some changes to my wife's work schedule), possibly register me for a bfing class, order my pump from my insurance company, finish our registry, pick out a pediatrician (we have a practice chosen and I'm going to talk to them after my next OB appointment), choose an attorney and contact them, do more research on circumcision, nail down shower details (we are having two and we have a date set for one already), read up on childbirth, and do a LOT to the nursery: it has to be cleared out and cleaned, wallpaper stripped, trim sanded/stripped, painted, and then set up. Not to mention all the last-minute prep that I can't even imagine right now.

Well I finally feel a little better after our Trisomy X diagnosis - time really does help these things. We are with J's family this week and they have been so supportive and amazing, we really do feel like our village is all aboard for lil'mamaz. Thanks to all of you who have posted or sent me PMs of reassurance and support. I don't want to be all AW about this all the time - but during these first couple weeks the extra TLC has been much appreciated!
Seems Simone doesn't much dig the south, as she had tucked herself into a new position and it's a lot harder to find her hb with the doppler. We'd gotten to where it was just boom - there. But the last three days it's been a little more nerve-wracking to find, but we have. So she is fine! I have most definitely turned the 2nd tri corner - no more nausea to speak of at all, energy more or less back to normal, and I've eaten mudbugs (crawfish), chicken and Aunt Sandy's beef vegetable soup- all without incident. My mother raised me that when you are a guest, you eat what is put in front of you graciously. I'm glad I have been able to! This is not our normal style of eating at all, but a week of odd foods for me (white bread?! what!?) will not hurt her, and J's family is very kind, so I'm glad to just go with the flow and be able to be grateful for their efforts to feed and take care of us.
Belly is getting bigger to! Crazy!
QOTW: Honestly, we have a few more weeks to pass up our loss date and then the a/s won't be far after. In my typical "least common denominator" fashion, I remind myself that women squat in fields and birth their babies into their own hands, live in huts and caves and yet propagate the species. All my baby needs is me, my boob, diapers, and clothes. The rest is gravy - or so I tell myself. So - anyhow - I think we'll be ok to start on our list after 20w or so. As previously mentioned, I plan to steal ball.and chain's registry (don't worry, she'll be compensated with an extra gift from her registry as payment!). We have a theme for our nursery (yellow walls, moons and stars!) and I'm already collecting vintage toys and books with moon/star themes for decorations (a "vintage" 1987 care bear, etc.). We are hoping to get a referral's for a pediatrician at Children's who specializes in genetic disorders, and daycare...we have some leads and are hoping to figure that out soon - I am taking 5-6 months mat leave so we have a bit of time. I'm still not 100% able to believe we are in the clear, so didn't want to start on too much too soon. Here's our mobile that is the basis for the nursery - it's from a cool quirky New York artist who makes a lot of fantasy pieces, but this one struck me:
Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!

I'm feeling pretty good. I definitely felt a shift this last week from feeling spry to feeling the heaviness of my belly on my pelvis. I'm waddling more, and I struggle to sit upright if I've been leaning back. It's pretty funny and a little frustrating. I'm feeling a little daunted by how I'm going to make it through the next 10 weeks with a toddler, since carrying him is difficult and bending down is a challenge all on its own. I know women do this all the time, so I'm sure I'll make it through. I told EV yesterday that I'm going to have to work a little on my attitude and perspective to try and stay positive even when I feel overwhelmed.
We had a great first appointment with our midwives, I loved having 2 hours to talk about our pregnancy and birth plans and I'm feeling so much more grounded. Our OB was great but my appointments were 5-10 minutes, I never really felt bonded to her and was missing all the supplemental information and feedback R & E are giving us.
QOTD: EV bought me a few boxes of natural face paints for Valentine's, with the plan that we could do a belly painting for Owen. We've been coming up with ways to celebrate his unique arrival and birth. Our midwife R may be hosting a refresher Birthing Class in April that will include an hour or so for the siblings to join the class and learn about becoming a big brother/sister, birth, etc.
My Mom offered to get a diaper service for us and I think I might ask to put those funds toward buying cloth diapers for Owen. I don't mind washing my own and the cost would be a lot less in the long run.
There's a Baby Consignment Fair coming up in the beginning of March, we're hoping to perhaps find cloth diapers, receiving blankets, etc., there or on Craigslist in the next few weeks.
I also have to rent my birth tub and birthing supplies and get the pregnancy tea herbs our midwives recommended and start drinking the tea of course.
We're planning on making some changes to the nursery and a few art pieces for Owen.
Finally date night. We didn't end up getting to go out on Saturday night. I looked more closely at the Advertisement at our gym and saw it said ages 5-12. No one had mentioned the age requirements when I registered Kaden, or when I was asking the Playcare staff questions on Friday evening. I'm glad I discovered it before Saturday night because we would have been even more devastated. Anyway Date Night is still on the table.
(P.S. sorry if there are weird typos, Kaden has come up to my laptop a few times and randomly hit the keyboard, I think I caught everything...) ;-)
Good luck to @Mamosey, @yachee, @sarahtrpt, and @amandag47!
We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

FET #1 December 2014
I am 7 wks 6days as of right now (EDD Oct 2). We meet with our Ob's nurse yesterday and did the complete medical overhaul and question time--she said we would have a better idea of due date, etc after our first appointment with our OB. I have another u/s scheduled with my RE on Thursday (should be our final appointment with him) and it will be my first appointment I have to go to alone (M is out of town for a conference). YIKES> Nausea is going full force so that is always a good time. Luckily the OB gave me a list of meds I can take for my allergies and to help sleep so I am doing a bit better about that today!

I am just at the beginning so all I have done is select an OB and a hospital at which I want to deliver. Everything else seems so overwhelming, and I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that I am pregnant and we are having twins...so pretty much everything makes me anxious right now LOL

@shelly2314 - that's great your wife wants to try! I went off of a protocol I found here :
https://www.asklenore.info/breastfeeding/induced_lactation/regular_protocol.shtml
If you have been researching, you have probably found it already. I did the regular protocol with birth control/domperidone for about 5 months then switching to pumping/herbs/domperidone. There is one thing I did a little differently that I think helped a lot. Instead of ever pumping to the clock, I always pumped until empty. I also did compression while pumping and hand expressed to get any that was left inside. This takes me LONG time but if I didn't do it this way, I don't think I would have gotten anything for weeks!
If she does want to go this route with meds, I order the Domperidone online from inhouse pharmacy. I felt nervous about ordering meds online from an international pharmacy but so far I haven't run into any problems. If you come across any more questions or want to chat more I would love to!
