Baby Shower Registry

I just started my registry on Amazon and holy cow......so overwhelming! Not only are there so many items to register for, but there are so many options for stores as well. I feel like I need to register at an actual store also because 1) Amazon has most things but not everything I'm looking for and 2) some people (my mom) like to shop at an actual store rather than online. Where is everyone else registering - Target, Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby, somewhere else?

Re: Baby Shower Registry

  • BRU and a small Target registry.

Get a copy of Baby Bargains and just go play with stuff in the stores. Those are the only two things I found helpful.

  • I did BRU and Target because neither store had everything I liked/needed. Both ended up being moderately sized and ranged in price.

  • BRU and Amazon.

Amazon is generally cheaper, but i also have a lot of family that aren't online shopping people.

  • My mom is doing a "Sprinkle" for this pregnancy. I'll probably put a few things from Target on a registry for the few people who would like to shop (mostly my mom, my aunt & a close friend). I'm mostly excited to register for cutesy crib sheets for some reason. Lol. I love them!

  • I did Amazon. I used Lucies List, and many other sources for suggestions, read reviews, etc. It was very extensive but thats just how I am. I like how with Amazon, you get a 10% completion discount and if you are signed up for Amazon Mom, which I am leaning towards, the discount is bumped to 15%. Add on the free shipping, no tax... I'll take it.

  • We registered at BRU but I find it is expensive. I would have set-up a small registry at WalMart as well, but apparently we can't do that in Canada.

  • I have a hidden list on Amazon that I've been playing around with, but it's hard to whittle down one car seat when there is 200 to look at.

IDK if I'll register or not, I think we will probably get what we need second hand, so not sure what I could even register for? My breast pump is covered under insurance, I already have plentry of onesies/sleepers, my aunt just gave me a swing/bouncer combo and a saucer...

  • I registered at BRU, Buy Buy Baby, and a few of the big ticket items on Amazon, just because they were cheaper there than in-store. (this was with DD)

  • I have a BRU registry, but you can find almost everything at 1/2 the price on craigslist so I find myself feeling really guilty for not just buying it myself....

  • Even i registered at BRU cuz its easy, and buy buy baby for coupons, and Ill do amazon because its cheaper. I normally watch my registry (my family found out at the bridal shower and were pissed, hopefully itll be a secret this time) and if something gets bought at say, BRU ill delete it off a different registry. I just like the idea of giving everyone every chance to find a better deal.
  • I did BRU last time and though I tried Target they seem to not keep same items for long so my registry 2 weeks later was filled with items that were no longer available.

Honestly you'll have some who buy exact things and others that will just do their own thing like clothes. They can always look for ideas on your registry and buy where ever they want too.

  • I did BRU, Buy Buy Baby, and a cloth diapering website. I recommend not registering for clothes because the stores change them out so frequently that they will be discontinued before people get a chance to buy them.
  • We're registered at babies r us and Amazon

  • I have started one using Baby's List: https://babyli.st It's basically like Pinterest for a registry. I have items from several stores on here and if I added an item from say Amazon, it will find the same item and list the price from ebay, toysrus, and so on. You can also add in quantities of items which is nice. To take an item off the registry people just reserve the item and can purchase it in a store, online, whatever works for them.

Now to populate it I just used Lucie's List and suggestions from friends.
  • I have one on Amazon but that's more my list of things that I'm planning on getting for myself. I'm planning on starting a registry at Buy Buy Baby I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • We just finished our's today. It was so overwhelming and a bit exhausting. We spent about 4hrs at Babies R Us, went for lunch, then did a small registry at Target. I had previously made a wish list registry through Amazon to give me ideas of what I wanted and what we needed. It helped a lot going into BRU. I'm glad we went there first because we got a nifty checklist and all the staff members were really helpful with all the questions we had.

I thought the baby's registry would be just as fun as the wedding registry... my god, I was so terribly wrong.

  • I also made an amazon registry. My amazon one has the essentials, including the higher priced items. Then, I made a walmart registry with lower cost essentials and a few "cute" things.

  • I would do an actual store in addition to amazon (what we did with DS). However, Target usually doesn't have much in store and you have to order it online anyway. If you actually go to the store and don't even look at what's online when you register, you should be fine. I made the mistake of adding stuff online that wasn't guaranteed to be in stores and it was frustrating.
  • I'm on baby 2 so no shower for me, but I may have a private registry just so I can get the completion code/percentage off.  For my first, I registered at BRU and Target. I only did Target because the closest BRU is 45 minutes away.  But Target was a major PITA, especially when it came to returning things that I got multiples of.

  • I registered on Amazon and at Target. I was hesitant about Amazon just because I like being able to go into an actual store, but being as we live on an island, a lot of my family appreciates being able to use the amazon prime free shipping, and I will love being able to fulfill the remaining items with free shipping too!

  • We are doing Buy Buy Baby, Target, and Land of Nod.

BBB & Target have some duplicates, but we have a lot of family/friends who don't have access to BBB or who will prefer to shop at Target.

Land of Nod is just our bedding & some cute decor items- no real "gear'.

I found it MUCH easier to register online, but I did try to select items at Target that were also available in store.

We went to BBB in person to confirm stroller & car seat selections, but I found the store very overwhelming.

I also have an Amazon registry but it is private and only for our own use as a wishlist/registry completion tool.

  • I used a combo of Lucie's List, Baby Bargains, and old posts from here that I had saved to research. I also sent our first draft registries so several IRL mom friends to make suggestions.

This. I am trying to have fun with it, but the steaks seem so much higher when trying to choose the right stuff!
  • It's totally normal to feel overwhelmed by it.  I broke down in the middle of registering at BRU when I was pregnant with DD and started sobbing because I was so overwhelmed/confused and felt like a sh!tty mom for not knowing what to choose.  My poor husband didn't know what to do with me. :) Here's the thing - if you change your mind, you can always go online and edit your registry from there.  It will be okay.  I promise!

  • I agree with editing your registry online. We did that when we got home last night. It was much more relaxing and we were able to find a few more things the stores didn't have in stock. Plus hubby was able to drink beer so he was much happier!

  • I registered at amazon for the big things because most have free shipping, and then BRU for other things. Ugh! It's so overwhelming!

  • I've been working in a private amazon registry. Most family is out of the country so in store doesn't make sense for us.
