Coming to accept your body post baby

Is anyone as happy with their post baby body as pre-baby? I lost the pregnancy weight pretty much right away-thanks to Gestational Diabetes, I only gained 22 pounds-but my body is just different now. My torso seems wider, my stomach is droopier. I have given up the dream of ever wearing a bikini again, I am on to swim shorts, but even my jeans don't fit the same as they did. No amount of exercise seems to change my shape. It doesn't help that my husband eats whatever he wants, does minimal exercise and still has a six pack. Is it just my age (37) or do most of you have a different shape now? I guess I should just get used to it, but it's frustrating to feel like I'm eating right (most days) and exercising and still feeling unhappy with my shape.

  • My body is more or less the same as before. Slightly more in the belly area, and hipsare wider, but more or less the same. I never really had a great body image of myself to begin with, so to me its more of the same. Although I know at least part ofthe issue is the prolactinoma i have.

  • I am just 3 weeks post partum from baby #2, so who knows how my body will end up this time, but after baby #1 I got back to a weight I was happy with, but I was shaped differently. It bugged me more that my rib cage was wider rather than the changes to my belly area. Honestly though I really don't care about wearing a bikini. I'm more comfortable in a tankini anyway. I am mourning my loss of muscle tone from when I used to do boot camp workouts, and I plan to try cross fit on my lunch breaks when I get back from maternity leave.

  • After DD I was in a bikini again in no time. After the twins I don't think I'll ever see one on me again. Even if I lost weight I'd have a lot of skin in the belly area, hell a lot of it is just skin now. I am coming to accept my new body more and more everyday. Especially since my belly has finally lost its roundness and I don't look pregnant anymore! Woohoo!

  • I am pretty much at the same weight I was before pregnancy but my body is definitely different. I have a belly that I don't think is ever going away and my boobs are somewhat saggy after a year of breastfeeding/pumping.

  • I wad slightly under weight pre pregnancy. I gained 43 lbs during, lost most of it right away. For some reason my weight went back up for a while when he was around 4 mo. It took about a year to get to a healthy weight I was comfortable with. I am happy with my weight overall but you're right, its not all quite the same anymore. I did not do a swimsuit at all last year and looking into a one piece for this year. One of my biggest challenges has also been adopting more mature, mother friendly wardrobe. All my shorts are booty shorts and shirts show a lot of cleavage. Not comfortable with that anymore.

  • @LaurenAnthony2009 I didn't even think about my boobs. Oh gosh. I was a C cup when I met DH and now I am a DD. With all that extra they definitely do sag!

@brandyleighxx I don't do the booty shorts anymore but it seems that anything I wear that isn't a T-Shirt shows my cleavage!

  • Most of me is okay except the tummy.  I refuse to accept that I will just have fat hanging over my pants for the rest of my life - that is not okay with me.  I have started running again to hopefully make a difference, since watching what I eat does very little for me.  If I got to the gym more often, I could probably make a difference.
  • I weigh less now than right before I got pregnant with DS. Part of that has to do with job stress and I'm sure it'll start to go back up since I have a new job and I have no desire to do any form of exercise in the winter (and I also refuse to give up Oreos).

  • i'm okay with my post-baby body. i weigh a little less than i did when i got pregnant, but like PPs have said, things are shaped a little differently- hips and ribcage are slightly wider and boobs a little less perky. i would like to work a little more on strengthening my core, but finding time to exercise is a challenge. i was back in my bikinis last summer. i wish women weren't so hard on themselves. there are so many guys who have big beer bellies and they're still out there with their shirts off, dang it!
