I can't take any more snow! Now when do I pick up the kid?

More snow today. I'm at work now, kiddo in DC. Snow is supposed to start soon, getting heavier from 1-4pm (1 inch / hour) tapering off after 5-7pm. Can't decide if I should leave early and try to beat the snow (waking kiddo up from nap) or chance that the snow will have stopped and the roads clear by 5 when I have to pick up kiddo.

WWYD?

  • With this winter I would err on the side of caution. Too many stalls/wipe-outs to count.

  • Can you leave at lunch (so work 1/2 day), pick kiddo up before nap and then do some work from home during nap?

  • Are you in MA/New England? If so, I have read/heard the evening commute is going to be a mess. I might leave early as well to avoid getting stuck in the car for hours with your little one.

This is what I did recently with similar snowfall timing. Daycare actually closed at 1, but I would have picked up then anyways.

  • I would leave before the snow is supposed to start.  If he naps at home maybe you can get some work done.

I am in MD and we are having a similarly sucky winter.  Today DS finally has school after a 5-day weekend and he is sick.  I cannot win.  If I don't get fired soon it will be shocking.

  • Daycare solved the problem for me by closing at 3.
Fortunately the roads were well treated and very slushy.
The nature of my work is such that I can't work from home so every snow day I take causes me to fall behind.
