Surprised.....but grateful.

I feel like I have been such a post whore lately - I blame it on the never ending winter and lots more time stuck inside.

Anywho - I know I posted about a month ago when I found out I had to have a LEEP - had it last week and turns out - I had CV III cells brewing in there. I"m shocked. All of my pap reports kept coming back the same way "low grade abnormalities found, can not rule out high grade." Literally this has been going on for almost two years (coincidentally enough the same time I went off the pill). My Dr. has done several culpo's and even sent all of my records to a specialist for review last September because she was so baffled. We had both been trying to avoid the LEEP, but she worried things could progress whenever I get pregnant again so she suggested doing it now since we're not active with TTC. I'm floored with such vauge reports there was actuall CV III's, but I'm so grateful that she went ahead and did the procedure even though I was practically fighting her. See, my mom had a total hysterectomy at 31 for the same thing - repetative paps with CV III. (They didn't do LEEPs back then).....

Here's hoping I'll be in the 90% that have success with the LEEP, but at least I can rest assured that I have a fantastic OB who knows her stuff (although I determined that a long time ago)....

So happy you had the procedure done and found out. Something that is not well publicized is that the pap test is actually quite bad at picking things up. There are tons of false negatives every year, so you get told your test was normal when in actuality there are bad cells there but maybe the doc didn't swab that part, or the cells are inside your cervix, or the person reading the test missed them, etc. It's definitely an argument about not going to testing every three years even for women with a long history of normal paps because part of the the testing relies on oh, if something gets missed this test we'll catch it with the next one. It also relies on cervical cancer being slow growing but that isn't always the case.

I have a feeling my tests were coming back normal but they were just missing the abnormal cells and then during my pregnancies, when my immune system was weakened, they sprang into action and boom, carcinoma in situ in developed in only about 9 months.

This is something you definitely want gone before getting pregnant again. Huge hugs and hope your follow-ups are all good.

In a really weird way I almost felt better hearing this news - in the sense that I no longer had to second guess having the LEEP. I know that sounds as* backwards..... And ironically my paps came back NORMAL when I was pregnant and off every time before and after. Have to wonder, if like you said she just didn't get the trouble area.

I really really hope my next pap comes back normal, but since it's 4 months away I am not going to think about it until then.

Good thing to know sooner rather than later and have it taken care of so it doesn't progress while pregant. I hope they get it all!
