Stressing about my home birth

So I'm 39 + 4 and planning a home birth, home birth equipment (box and gases) have been in my house a week and a half and it's taunting me!!

My daughter was 8 days late so I'm stressing that this baby will be late too... I live in the UK and if I have to be induced then I have to go into hospital, probably at 41 + 5.

I'm also stressing about the home birth as where I live it's really unusual to have a home birth so I'm worried they might not be able to send midwives etc.

ARGHHH!! Waiting for baby is the worst part...I'm sore and tired and just want to meet my baby!! Rant over haha.

Re: Stressing about my home birth

  • Oh, dear! I do hope your baby comes sooner than later so that you can avoid being induced and going to the hospital. Do you plan on trying anything to get him to come faster like castor oil / exercise ball / etc? I've no idea if any of that is reliable in getting labor jump-started or not, but I suppose they never hurt to at least consider if you're worried about being induced. I personally am going to try and do nothing until baby comes on his own, but I know there's a deadline on that and when it'll end up in the hospital's hands, which I don't want either. :\
3 early losses in 2013, but so thankful that our first baby boy is due 3/29/14! <3

  • I hear ya.  With #4 I was planning a homebirth and would have risked out at 42 weeks.  She ended up coming at 41w6d - only after I had my MW strip my membranes at an appointment earlier that day.  Maybe if you're nearing your "deadline" you could try something like that.

  • Don't stress! :-)

You have plenty of time, I'm sure things will work out perfectly. Your midwives will probably suggest some labour encouraging techniques if you start to approach an induction deadline.

    Good luck!

  • I have the exercise ball although it's not really an induction technique but it does get baby in the right position which is always good. I had my membranes swept the last time, was horrific due to the nurse and her attitude ie being really rough then telling me I had to sort myself out and stop being such a wimp as I was going to have a baby soon so I'm really keen to avoid that!!

Ultimately if I have to go to the hospital I know it's not the end of the world but it's not what I want and I also don't want to have to wait another 2 weeks to meet my little man!!
  • I am in the same boat! 39 wks and 5 days and planning a home birth! My daughter was 6 days late and I am hoping this LO comes sooner! I have been bouncing on the birth ball, eating pineapple and spicy foods and had my chiropractor hit up my pressure points! We will see if it works!

  • I'm still hanging on now 40 + 3 trying not to wind myself up about it all! Why can't babies just do as they are told hahaha! I read about castor oil however it did say most mws don't recommend it because it can give you the really bad runs...who knows though I might get desperate enough to give it a bash in a few days as I'm starting to get tired and miserable- never say never!!
  • Remember due dates are just estimates and babies come when they are ready. My first was 40 weeks 5 days. This LO is currently 39 weeks and still counting. Walking, sex, relaxing with a massage are all things that helped me with LO #1.
