Not much to report here. I posted in the 9 month check up thread that Violet was found to have 'moderate' anemia last week. Eleanor's iron level was fine. So Violet's on an iron supplement and so far she's taking it easily enough. I've been giving her a lot of fruit and so far her stools have been regular, if a little black. Fingers crossed this continues and her iron levels improve at her 12 month appointment.
I have always tried to give them iron-rich foods, but I don't think Violet was taking enough in. Eleanor is like a little vacuum cleaner with food, so I think that's the reason her iron levels were fine. So I'm trying to make sure Violet has enough time to eat all she wants now.
I feel like I cooked all weekend! I made the Morning Glory Muffins from the BLW cookbook (LOL at the name), which were pretty good for not having any sugar or butter. For lunch yesterday, we had black bean quesadillas and for dinner we had broiled scallops with cannellini beans, kale and tomatoes. I bought some shelled mussels this weekend because I read that most shellfish is really high in iron, but I have no idea how to cook them in a baby-friendly way. I only know of steaming them in wine. Any suggestions?
We are on vacation at the IL's and LO has tried quinoa, bacon (daddy and papa thought he would love it and he did of course), and yam fries. Oh and he tried a cupcake for valentine's.
L has been loving food like usual. He had and enjoyed salmon for the first time recently. He was uninterested in some steamed veggies that we cooked him on the side, though. I think he's liking the spices that we've been adding to our food. I've been wanting to make these cookies for L and I to share: https://www.theburlapbag.com/2012/07/2-ingredient-cookies-plus-the-mix-ins-of-your-choice/
OMG William must squash every single pea with his pointer finger by pressing down before he picks it up. So weird, but it sure helps us get through our own meals because he could do it forever. Loving peas!
Re: BLW /finger foods check in
We have tried all kinds of things over the last couple weeks....spinach, pasta, peaches eggs, fish, strawberries, cheese.
He does really well with everything so far. I can tell he likes to eat when we eat. I need to push some more iron rich foods though
Oh and he tried a cupcake for valentine's.

Evidently they are high in iron, so they might be something to try for those with anemia. You are just supposed to make sure they aren't salted.
I was inspired by the scallops that pumpkinandthepeanut mentioned so I've ordered some to try this week.
