Anyone down to 1 nap?

We kicked the morning nap here about a week ago. He would take a morning one, but then play and fuss in his crib for 45 minutes for the second one then only sleep for 20 minutes. So now we're down to 1, but it's a stinky transition. He sleeps from 1-3 at daycare with no issues. But at home he wakes up half way through and fusses for 10 minutes before he'll go back to sleep. He has also started waking up in the MOTN.  Just once, but still. I love the freedom of mobility that the one nap gives us, but getting to a comfortable sleep and wake time schedule is no bueno. Anyone else kick a nap to the curb?

Re: Anyone down to 1 nap?

  • We're transitioning at the moment. It's about 50/50 whether she takes a second nap or not. It depends on how early she goes down for her first nap, but it's starting to look like 12:30-2:30 or 3:00 is going to be the new schedule.

  • We've never had a set schedule - if he's tired, he naps, if not, that's OK.  That being said, he used to take 2 naps pretty regularly, usually in the Ergo.  Now we'll get one 45-60 minute nap for sure, and he may or may not take the second one, which is usually the same duration.  Now and then he'll throw a 2-hour nap in there.  his nighttime sleep is great - he pretty much always STTN (*knocks on wood*).

  • A while back DS went 4 days in a row with just one long nap, but then he switched back to two. Occasionally he'll do one, but we're still two for the most part. He did something similar with the 3 to 2 transition. He'll go back and forth for a couple months before he entirely switches over.

  • My kid's a weirdo in that he never really consistently took two naps a day. We're at one now.

  • We do one nap too. Daycare does nap from 1-3. I try my best to keep that at home.

  • We're transitioning.  He does it at daycare, but we still struggle at home.  I'd say we're about 50-50 right now.  I really want him down to 1.  It will be so much easier to plan our days with DS1's activities.

We've been at mostly one, sometimes two if the one wasn't long enough for about a month now. I wish two or three naps had lasted longer in this house :(

  • We just got down to one nap. Daycare and they way he sleeps until 8:30 am has been the culprits to driving us there... It sucks because he only sleeps for 1-2 hours.

  • Yes and I feel like it's a wee bit early but they do it in daycare so I'm trying to be consistent. He's been a hot mess with teeth and a the transitioning.

We have only been successful once so far on a weekend with the one nap. It helps to let him get a few minutes of sleep on the way somewhere in the car early enough. So he's still happy but also ready to sleep in the afternoon.

  • She's been a 1 nap since November with an occasional lapse into 2 naps for a couple of days.

  • I think we're headed to 1 nap. Last week most of her morning naps were only about 45 minutes long (normally they'd be closer to an hour and 15 minutes). And when she does take a longer morning nap, her afternoon nap has been short. Seems to me like she's trying to consolidate. While going down to only 1 nap is kinda scary, it will be soooo much easier to only have to plan my day around 1 nap instead of 2.

  • Yes, for at least a month.....if we are home she goes down around 1pm for 2-3 hours.  If we are out, she wakes up early or sleeps late, that can vary from going down anywhere between 12pm and 3pm.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • yup we have been at 1 nap for about a month or so. She also seems to be napping for a shorter time too :-( Maybe only 45 minutes to an hour.

She is still learning to nap in her crib tho. If I nap with her in bed she will go the full 2 hours.

DS has also decided he is going to drop his afternoon nap, so I get no baby free time at all now during the day.

ah well, the joys of being a SAHM :-)

  • Yeah, DD is also sleeping waaaay less. For instance today she slept for an hour-ish around 1pm and then she just now went down for bed at 8pm and it took me a while to nurse her to sleep deep enough to leave her alone and stay asleep.

Her 20 month old cousin sleeps for three hours in the middle of the day and then sleeps all night. I'm so jealous of those extra two hours her parents get to themselves.

  • E is mostly still at two but occasionally will drop one, especially if we are out. At home he sleeps at 10 and 1pm.
