Feeling bad when lying down

I have noticed feeling sick when l am lying in bed regardless of whether it is on my side or back. I get a headache, feel nauseated and a little light headed. Anyone else?

  • Hmmm, I would definitely understand back but sides too is interesting. Is it both sides? Do you have a comfy recliner you can sleep in? That's a bummer, you just can't catch a break! Hopefully 3rd tri is nicer to you!

  • Is one side worse than the other? Laying on your left side is a natural remedy that's supposed to help nausea due to where your stomach is. Not sure on the logistics, but whenever I have to deal with my bowel issues, especially after surgery, I feel so much better on my left side.

  • Honestly, I think it is perhaps even slightly worse on my left side. I have to sit up or stand up. It sucks.

  • That does suck! Any of this with your DS1 pregnancy? I slept upright in our recliner last night because of a yucky cough and congestion, but I can't imagine having to do that every night. I don't think it would hurt to check with your doctor about it (did you stay with your original or switch, btw?).

  • I'm right there with ya. It's especially bad on my left side, actually. I can handle being on my right side for a short time, but then I can't do that either. Honestly I've started spending a lot of the night on the couch where I can prop myself up at an incline using a pillow and the chair of the couch. That seems to be the most comfortable sleeping position for me at the moment - no lightheaded-ness and less nausea and hip/back pain.

  • I switched to a new ob. I will bring it up but my next appointment is a couple of weeks away. I have just noticed it in the last couple of days. I don't know if it is better or worse after eating. My dh is stumped, too. BP is normal in all positions.

  • Can you make a nest of pillows to elevate yourself? Does a body pillow help? Sounds miserable. I'm sorry.

  • I've had to start propping the belly up when I'm laying on my side. I just wedge a flat pillow under the belly a little bit. Otherwise I don't feel great. I don't know if that would help at all, but it might be worth a try.

  • I've noticed lately that when I'm laying on the couch (back or sides), I find it harder to breathe.  For some reason when I'm laying flat in bed though, it is not as bad.  I thought it would have been more comfortable on an incline.  Go figure.

  • Oh,man, that's no fun. I've have a few nights sporadically like this. No idea what causes it but propping myself up is the only thing that helps. I'm super stiff in the morning from sleeping upright, but that's the only solution that has worked for me. good luck...hope you can get some rest soon!

Yeah, that is what I find, too.  If I am totally flat on the bed (pretty much how I sleep), then I am okay.  But if I am on the couch or watching tv and even slightly propped up, I start feeling light-headed and quesy.  I am guessing it has something to do with blood flow, but I just can't figure out how.

Sorry, totally missed this. No, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it's some kind of combination of heartburn/circulation stuff. I've pretty much just resolved myself to couch-sleeping for now.

  • I have no experience with this but just wanted to say that I hope it's temporary for you.
