Irrational fear + question

So as many others I am sick of winter. I wish I could just head south and strut this baby bump down a beach. Then I started thinking about how great a hammock would be! THEN I started freaking out about not being able to get out of the hammock! I can't stop looking at really low couches and chairs thinking that in a few shorts months I may actually not be able to get to out of them on my own!

Has anyone gotten themselves stuck in a couch, in a low chair, on some toilets (why some seem so much lower then others is beyond me)? I am a tall woman and have found some small stalls in public washrooms challenging already....I can only imagine what I am going to do towards the end....

Re: Irrational fear + question

  • No, I have never actually gotten stuck somewhere. I am also a tall mama and have gotten pretty big with my previous pregnancies. Although it can get very difficult to get up at the end. It is possible! You can put your fear to rest :-) I even sat on the floor up until the end when I was pregnant with DD and was still able to manage to pry myself up. Although, occasionally I did ask for some help from DH, I could do it on my own if need be.

  • I was huge by the end, but still mobile. It was challenging to get up from low seats & the floor, but I figured it out & you will too!
  • we had our mattress on the floor when I was pg with dd, and even at the end, although I was huge and it was difficult, I could still get up on my own
  • The key is the roll. Roll to your side, then push up. I can roll out of anything. Okay, maybe not a toilet. Actually, I've heard it's better to roll to the side first than to sit up from a more lying down position as you can separate your abdominal muscles if you sit up directly. I've been rolling for awhile already this time around.

Unfortunately, as I was researching this to provide a link the information I came across makes it seem like my abdominal muscles have already separated :( . Pretty sure I've already seen that middle ridge bulge when I forget and try to go straight to a sitting up position. That bulge is actually what reminds me to roll, but I'm not going to double check just in case I make things worse. Maybe this would explain why I'm already huge at 17 wks even as a third time mom, according to this article any way.

  • I about got stuck on the floor with our first while dressing a wound on a patient's foot. Took a country tries to get back up. He suggested buzzing the call light and telling the nursing help my therapist sat down and she can't get up.

  • I will have to look into this roll! I know I should always be able to get up but as a FTM I have no concept of how "big" I am going to get so my brain just seems to take over :-)

  • No I have never gotten stuck. I agree, roll out of anything. If not, call your husband to come to the rescue. Last night I had him take my pants off for me (mostly because I'm lazy).

  • No not really. I usually get very big at the end but I always manage to get up. Haha I've got a technique.
