Unbelievable..

My LO is 6 months old and weighs 19 pounds. He has incredibly chubby cheeks and thighs that I think are adorable and he's baby geez. Why do strangers have to make such rude comments to him? "Woah you should lay off the bottles" and "boy you don't miss a meal do you?" Are just a few of the comments we've heard lately. I know I shouldn't let it bother me but it really does. Our pediatrician says he's within a normal range. Anyone else had these comments made to them? How did you handle it - say something or just brush it off?

We are actually at the opposite end of things- my boys were 19/20 lbs at 1. Because they are twins, we get tons of inappropriate comments and the weight ones are just another thing to ignore. Sometimes, I'll say something about the doctor being pleased with their progress and that usually does the trick. People just love to give their opinions and think they are being so clever with their little quips. But, for the most part, I just smile and nod.

It is really bothersome to hear someone make a remark about a baby's appearance. So sorry to hear you are going through it!!

When O was 6 months, he was 19lbs 2oz. I got a lot of comments about how big he was but I loved it. I love that he's a big kid and is healthy. I always tell people after they call him big that this is the best time in his life where it's alright for him to be overweight without being judged. Now that he's 8.5 months he's only 20lbs 6oz. He's leveled out a bit thanks to crawling. I can see how as he gets older it will beging to bother me more though.

Like Ruthie, I've always had a tiny baby. And my friends have big babies. E is 6 months older than her "friends" and they are all the same size. I know a lot of people make comments about them being so big, and they make comments about E being so small. You can't please people.
Something about pregnant women and babies makes people lose all sense of manners. I'd be tempted to ask how many meals they miss themselves if they are so judgey.

I could have written this exact post. My LO is also 6 months and 19lbs. He is healthy and happy and I resent people making comments about his size. Its inappropriate to make comments about older children and adults' sizes , so why is it OK to make those same comments about a baby? It really bothers me, but I usually just smile and say "yeah, he is a big boy"… Yes, I agree, people need to STFU. ugh.

I'm glad I'm not the only but sorry you ladies have dealt with this too. So frustrating because after struggling with IF I'm just so thankful to have my LO and happy he is healthy. I know you all can relate.

@TJ1979 had to laugh at asking the adults how many meals they miss too true lol

I used to get the same thing, still do. DS is just big - he's super tall and solid! He has always been in the high 90th percentile. The comments never really bothered me, for some reason. I think it stems from the fact that he lost so much weight in the beginning. I would cry in the Dr's office after he was weighed, it was awful!! So I feel like he's come so far! I could see how it would bother a mother though. But my DS is just a big kid, I feed him well and he is active so I know I'm not doing anything wrong. Try not to let it bother you!! I'm not sure why people think it is ok to make any kind of comment like that!

@ccam When I talk about your little man being so big, I've been referring to how grown up he looks. Not his weight. He's like a little man! So adorable.

I don't say anything or I say LO is happy and healthy and it doesn't matter her size. Of course my LO is 5 mos 13 pounds and very short.

DS has always been over !00% on weight and between 75 and 90 % on height. We get "he's big!" comments all the time, but I actually don't mind at all. Granted, no one says he should eat less, and in Kenya, bigger is better when it comes to babies. I've always just taken it as a compliment that he's strong and healthy.

Wow all I can say is ignore ignore ignore. Babies are 100 time cuter when they have meat on their bones. And no one is going to not feed their kid so their size is acceptable to others. I used to get all the time..wow you have a big baby! Funny when ds was in the 8th percentile when I had him and for the first 6 months. People don't ever know what in the heck they are talking about. All that matters is you have a cute, happy fed baby!

I'm so sorry you have to put up with comments like that. I get them too (my DD is 7mo, 18+lbs) she's well within the norm. Her PED said if anyone comments on her belly or cheeks or overall size, simple say "Her doctor says she's healthy and perfect in every way" So I say that and ignore the rest. People don't realize what they are saying sometimes.

Wow -my LO is 6 months and just over 19 pounds. No one dares to say anything to me about how big she is - I would probably tear them a new one if they did. Ignore them.

Big hugs! My twins are 6 mos and one of them is 18 lbs. People make comments all the time especially since the other twin weighs three lbs less. I usually say something about the fact that he was a preemie and weighed 3 lbs at birth.... They usually don't have anything to say after that!!

so that may delay everything hoping it doesn't. But we could be cycle buddies - that would be very cool
