Just curious - for those of you whose docs don't check unless asked -
When are you requesting for your cervix to be checked?

I'm mobile but not sure why the first option isn't showing up.
Should be Less than 38 weeks.

My midwives do a check when we have our group b strep test. They don't check again unless I ask. I'm not asking them to check again unless this baby isn't here at 41w and we need to discuss an induction.

I will ask at 40w simply because I'm curious. Since I started the process at 31w and was still the same at 35w, I'd like to know if its still the same. It also prepares me a little more to start thinking about induction which is what happened with DS.

I used to get checked weekly when my IU was bad and they were trying to keep me from going into labor. LOVE that they don't check me anymore. It gives me false hope.

I am apparently way more curious than some of you! I got checked at 36wks when she was all up in my business anyway for the GBS, and then I did again Friday at my 38wk appt. I fully appreciate that it doesn't mean anything definitive, but I don't think having some knowledge about what your body is doing is unnecessary. The final changes your body makes before labor are exciting--it's fun to know that something is starting (even if finishing it could still be a ways away). I'm not interested in reading a gagillion cervix/mucus plug posts either and am glad they are discouraged around here, but I get why people are excited when things start happening that signal the end.

I'm in the "it's pointless" camp. I've been at least 3cm for at least a couple weeks, and guess what? It means shit. I do wish I had just declined those initial checks, since it got my excitement up (even though I KNEW it meant nothing!) maybe if you had reason to consider an induction, then it would b helpful to know if conditions were more likely to be favorable.

I would be fine with being checked at 40 weeks if it would make a difference in whether we start thinking induction. Before that, no thanks! It's just one more thing I'd be thinking about and I can't do a darn thing about it either way!

I have enough on my mind 3 weeks before my due date, kthxbye!

I voted ss, not sure what it would change or why I need it...sometimes I do feel like ignorance is bliss...although I am fascinated to know her position only because of all the weird things I feel.

I asked at my 36 week appointment......under normal circumstances I don't think I would have. But they've had me on Procardia for preterm labor for the past 12 weeks and were taking me off (that day) so I wanted to know where my body was at having been on the meds so long. I guess just to kinda have a baseline for my next appointment to see if anything has changed after not being on the meds.

She checked me at 36 weeks (80% effaced with a Cheerio) and also said that she was going to monitor my blood pressure. I don't know if she's gonna talk induction on Thursday at my next appointment, or if she is even gonna do a check. I suppose I'll wait and see! Although I do find it interesting learning the state of the cervix, FTM curiosity I guess!

My ob/gyn told me a few weeks ago that he would no longer be checking. I believe this was once we got to the point where they would not take steps to stop labour.

Since we have a timeline and I won't be allowed to reach 37 weeks it just doesn't matter anymore.

I'll get checked. If it puts me into labor so be it. If not oh well- at least i know whats going on down there.

I feel the same. I haven't asked for it, but I'm not declining then either. I had one during my GBS test, and it really wasn't bad. It helped ease my mind of some of my induction fears to know that I'm not closed up like fort knox.

I'll have one more this week, but that is so my OB will know whether to schedule me to come in for cervadil the night before my induction.

I'm not going to request any, and may deny them before 40wks (unless there's a medical reason, of course). Since they're not really that informative we can all just assume everything is fine down there for the time being.

I don't have to ask, my dr starts checking at my 37 week appointment. I'll be 37 w 6 days, so it's really more like my 38 week appointment.

My OB said she'd start checking me around 38 weeks if I reminded her, but I don't think I will. As I remember, it's not a very comfortable sensation.
