Sleeping on my back

I have bee waking up a number of times through out the night and each time I'm on my back even though I go to bed sleeping on my side. Is this ok for the baby? I know you are not supposed to sleep on your back. I don't have any problems breathing but I'm wondering am I hurting the baby at all?
Thanks!

  • I'm surprised you can even breathe. I can't breathe when I'm sitting up sometimes. :-/

  • I'll play.  I keep waking up on my back too.  And I actually feel more comfortable on my back than I have in quite a while.  I figure as long as I'm not feeling dizzy and I'm rolling on my back naturally then I'm fine and so is baby.  Your body isn't stupid, even while it's sleeping--you wouldn't lay on your back if you doing serious damage.

Are you passing out or have numbness in your legs when you wake up?  No?  Then you're fine and probably won't die.

    ETA:  I can't spell today.

  • I wake up on my back a few times a night, your body will wake you if it becomes too much. I usually wake up because I can't breath!
I really miss sleeping on my back!

  • I wake up on my back a lot lately but baby is still kicking and I'm fine. Try wedging some pillows around you to keep you on your side if you're really worried.

  • I'll play I guess.

Confession: I've been sleeping on my back this whole time. I tried everyway on my sides but I suck at side sleeping even with the pregnancy pillows. I tried it all. Granted, when I'm on my back, I hike my upper body up with a ton of pillows so I can breathe and my hands don't go numb. My doc said it was fine as long as nothing is numb. She said sleep however you can while still being comfortable. Your body will tell you if it's not ok.

With that said, ask your doc about it. You are not me (shocker I know) so there may be other concerns.
