Baby A isn't moving as much...

I'm 28 weeks tomorrow.  It's been a couple days that she isn't moving as much as Baby B, and she used to be the more active one.  I checked their heartbeats this morning with my doppler, but should I be concerned?  I tried doing a kick count but I can't really tell if she's moving or if Baby B is moving and it moves her too.  I have felt her move a bit, and I know for sure it was her but it used to be so easy to get her to move.  I'm not sure if I should call the dr or if this is normal... are they getting crowded enough this early to where movement starts slowing down?

Re: Baby A isn't moving as much...

  • Definitely ask to be checked if you are worried.

That said, I don't feel one of my twins nearly as much and on the ultrasound they explained that she is facing backward and that twin B is overlapping her on the front (basically sitting on her head .. poor thing) so they didn't expect I would feel her as much. That made me feel a lot better.

  • I feel one of my twins WAY more than the other, it is scary. I would probably try to do a kick count (10 you KNOW are baby B within 2 hours). If you can get that I wouldn't be concerned at all but if you don't get 10 from baby B then I would call just in case.

  • I also felt one baby much more than the other. Now, at 35 weeks, I feel the other one much more. Try to get kick counts, and if you are still concerned call you your doctor, however it's very normal to feel one more than the other.

  • I'm 34 weeks now and I know that I feel one if my twins moving more than the other. It was explained to me that it could be their positioning, they are also running out of room and also, they may have different personalities :) If you are really concerned though I don't think it hurts to call the doctor and get checked out.
  • I just went in for an ultrasound yesterday for the same thing. I'm almost 28w and hadn't felt movement I could define as baby B in 3+ hours. I of course tried everything to get him to move and he was being stubborn. I went in turns out he's transverse facing down do he's kicking his sister and not me. It was worth going in for the reassurance though. I was very scared.

  • Definitely call your OB if you are worried. It doesn't hurt to be safe. I always felt and saw Baby B move way more than Baby A.

  • Call your OB. I was at the hospital a few times to check on them. It was such a sigh of relief when I knew they were both doing fine.

One time I went in for my regular OB appt. and when they asked how they were moving I was kind of hesitant with my answer. They didn't like that so I was sent over to be monitored. They were both crazy by the time I got there.

  • It could definitely be the positioning. I can usually tell (at least I think I can) if they have changed positions by what I feel as far as kicks/movement. BUT my MFM always tells me to call if I feel a decrease in movement, so I would call if I were you.
  • Thanks for the advice.  I called and they had me come in for a NST.  Babies were both fine, the one on the left (whose movement I was worried about) moved transverse and was more in the middle/right side so when I was poking around on my left side trying to get her to move nobody was there, lol.  I guess they are both crammed on the other side.. I didn't realize they still had enough space to do that.
  • That sounds like what my twins do. I have one I can feel active all day and the other I hardly ever feel. The doctor says that it could be the way she's positioned or where her placenta is positioned. When I asked my doctor if I should be concerned she said that as long as nothing has come up abnormal on the ultrasounds then it's okay. It's hard to tell between the two. But they also said if you have any doubts that the baby is acting abnormal that there is never any harm getting checked out. Go with your gut on this one. Us as outsiders can only tell you what we know but you're the one that can feel your babies.
