Short story:
Baby girl born at 3:44 am Friday February 14th at 9 lbs 2 oz and 22.25 inches and a full head of hair. Baby was 41 weeks 4 days.
Long Story:
Some of you may have known I was scheduled for an induction (being 10 days overdue) that got cancelled because the hospital was "too busy". I didn't want to jinx myself by accepting the contractions I was having were real as they weren't really consistent.
So baby girl decided that she wanted to give the hospital a run for their money and see just how busy they were - she did this by passing meconium in utero - discovered with my water breaking at home.
We called and they told me to head right in, and warned me right away no skin on skin as baby will need to be checked over very thoroughly to ensure no aspiration of meconium.
At hospital around 10 pm, 3 cm and was fully dilated within 4 hours. Pushing time.
Contractions were coming every 2 minutes but baby's heart was dropping and taking too long to come back up with pushing and doctor couldn't use forceps/vacuum due to funny baby position. Turned out at some point (possibly explaining the horrendous back labour I was experiencing).
It was decided an emergency c section was necessary and after some difficulty rounding up enough staff it was done and beautiful girl was born at 3:44 am.
Team Green slight let down:
We were team green going in. During labour one of the nurses referred to baby as "she" and a doctor referred to baby as "her". I was hoping these were just slips to avoid the awkward "it" and/or habit and/or convinced the doctor was
Referring to me, not baby.
When baby was born and they took her away no one told me what she was! I had to raise my voice and ask multiple times "what is it, boy or a girl?!" The anesthesiologist finally said "oh you didn't know!". I'm sort of glad I tried to convince myself they were just mistakes but also glad I never questioned has husband missed both these slips so it was a truer surprise for him.
At the end of the day we have a beautiful baby girl. There's one maybe health concern that will need follow up at a specialist but trying to be optimistic - we can't worry until we know more.
I can't leave the hospital until Monday morning (we hope), so can't update my ticker yet!
Thank you for reading and letting me share our story! Hugs to all you wonderful ladies!
