Btdt moms...do your kids growl?

Went out to dinner with my lo and DH. It was a pizza place with a small seating area. We were at the table when this family came in to pick up takeout. This kid who looked between 5-7 slowly walks up to us and stops a few feet from our table and started growling towards my lo. After a minute or two his mom came and pulled him away (didn't say anything just came and got him)

Anyway my friends say its a kid thing and my lo will start growling also. Lol

I never heard this before and don't remember my baby brothers doing it....so I'm wondering if anyone else's kid growls?

Can you tell I'm bored? Lol

  • My almost three year old does, but I think it's because she watches Monsters University so much.

  • @kelly422 I'm not that stupid lol
  • My baby growls... They are just learning how to use their voices and testing the full range! Although with an older kid, it is a little odd..

My baby growls too. He thinks it's hilarious. My cousin went through a phase when she was maybe 5 or 6 and would only bark. I think it's a little strange but also something kids do.

  • Haha, my kid doesn't, but I know two little boys who do. I think it may have to do with not having a lot of vocabulary. The good talkers in out kid group don't, but the two little boys I'm thinking of have way fewer words and often use grunts and growls. Ah little cavemen!

  • My 8 month old nephew growl/roars and its the cutest thing ever! I would be a little freaked out by an older kid growling but my best friends daughter used to hiss at people. lol ... She was probably around 5 at the time.

  • DD (7 months) growls when she gets frustrated. I think it's hilarious.

I think it would be weird to have an older kid randomly doing that, but kids go through phases. They pick something they like and stick with it until they wear it out.

My friend has a 4-year-old who just watched The Croods. He's been going up to everyone saying, "And then you die!"
  • My 2.5 year old doesn't.  But I know of a woman whose older daughter with autism does this often--people are really rude to her about it at times.
Married to my best friend 6/5/10
    BFP #1 9/7/10, EDD 5/14/11, Violet born 5/27/11.
    BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.
    BFP #3 10/6/12, EDD 6/16/12., Matilda born 6/17/13.
  • When my BIL was about that age he wouldn't walk, he would only crawl around and pretend he was a dog. Even in public. I think he barked too. I think it's a kid thing and normal :) however, the mother should have said something. Her child was growling at your LO after all!
  • I taught first grade for a few years and the crazy thing about kids that age is they really just do whatever pops into their head. They don't know (or just don't care) what is socially acceptable and will pretty much try anything to see what happens.
