DH and I are trying to finalize a name before May arrives!  However, we don't seem to agree.  Here is what we have it narrowed down to (in no particular order).... (also DS name is Tyler)

Allison
Kennedy
Whitney
Hailey
Carley
Olivia
Claire
Paige
Chelsea
Morgan
Reagan
Brianna
Blakely
Aubrey
Kaitlin
Brooklynn

Girls names are so hard!!!  HELP!

  • Brooklyn and Aubrey are my favorites

Don't do the double "N" though... It would be frustrating to go through life having to say "with two n's"

  • I guess I should have stated popular for where we live.  Popularity differs among states- we are flooded with Madison, Lily, Zoey, Sophia, Charley, Addison, Madelyn, Riley, Alexis, etc. where I live.  Not that I don't like some of those names, just have had at least 1 or two every year in class.  These names haven't shown up in my 10 years of teaching (other than Hailey, Carley and Olivia- each only 1 time)

    Thank you for your help!

  • I love Whitney, Aubrey, and Claire.

  • ...seriously in 10 years of teaching you've never come across a Chelsea or a Brianna? I feel like everyday life shows you these names are popular. They're all decent names but if popularity is really an issue you need to keep looking

  • I like Claire- Classic and elegant
  • I like Hailey, Blakely, Aubrey, and Reagan, but I have to say I am partial because DD is Hailey as well :)

Naming is so hard, and everyone's taste is so individual so in the end you really just have to go with your gut! There will always be friends and family who will not like the name, no matter what it is you choose! Good luck :)
  • I love the name Claire! It was at the top of my list for names.
    :)
  • Claire and Aubrey are my favorites from your list.

Do you teach newborns and under 3 year olds? That is how old the kids are with these names.

  • I like Whitney and Chelsea. The others are too popular (for me at least).

  • I love Carley - and my name is Allison and I love having it :) so those would be my choices!
  • I like Claire and Allison, I'm all for the classics. Don't like the others.

  • Claire and Regan, and Carly (I those spelling better than Reagan and Carley. They are the more natural and traditional spellings).
  • Love Paige. Trying to decide whether we're using it as a middle name or saving it for a first name if we have another girl.

  • I like Whitney, Claire and Paige, in that order. I agree with PPs that the others are generally very 'popular' names. I do teach pre-schoolers and there are a slew of Kennedys, Briannas, Reagans and the like under age 4. Allison is also not as popular but nice. It's my mom's name.

  • I like Whitney and Aubrey:)
  • I like Aubrey and Reagen. I know someone who spells it Raegen, too.
My name is Carleigh and I was one of 6 in my class, of course they were all spelled differently though.

  • I agree with PP- I'm a middle school teacher and have been teaching at least 150 students each year for the past 9 years. These are very popular names.

I have never taught a Chelsea, but it is my sister's name. I have never taught a Claire or Reagan. Claire makes me think of Breakfast Club.
  • I like Allison Claire and Olivia. And for those telling you all of your names are popular names... Who cares? Obviously a lot of people don't mind giving their kids popular names or there wouldn't be so many kids with the same name! I hink if it was an issue to you then you would have researched it already. If you really really love a name and it's popular, use it anyways if you feel like it.
  • +1 for Allison. Meh to the rest.

Well she was the one who cared about the popularity thing. In her original post she said she didn't want a popular name cause she's a teacher and doesn't want a name she's taught before or something. She edited the post and took that out

Thanks for this but somehow I don't think your name is going to be considered by OP since she already has 20 names she likes and is trying to narrow down.

OP, I don't even really know where to start with your list. That's more like what one would call a long list. Once you get it down to like top 4 and you have a "short list" our responses might be more meaningful.

  • FWIW, Out of the names you have listed, most of them are too popular or trendy for my taste but I would do Olivia Paige.

  • I feel like people freak out about the "popular" names, but, if you look at percentages, I really don't see how it's a big deal. Olivia was the #4 most popular girl name in 2012 and, yet, fewer than 1 in 100 girls were given that name. https://www.babynames1000.com/top.php?n=10&y=2012 Sometimes it's just a crap shoot and more area-specific than a general rule.

  • As a Whitney I will tell you that as much as I like my name she will spend her life being called Wendy and a bunch of other things ... Rarely actually Whitney :-(
